This is a bit newer (Nissan, not Datsun!) but this is my buddy Steve back in 1985.

That is terrific... love details on cars from this period, like the chrome drip rail stays ON, while stripping weight elsewhere.
Alu sheet ducting in the grill = classic.
Besides the obvious Z's, 510's and Celicas, the only ones that comes to mind (but not done often) are early Skyline GT-Rs,
probably 'cause we never saw 'em here. A shame we never saw Japan's sports racers compete here, either.

Always loved the Mazda Cosmo, sort of a has a '55 T-Bird quality. Maybe one day... but I'm surprised nobody has brought up the Mazdas that could: the RX2 and RX3. Very competitive in their time... the RX7 was bound to happen after they hit the US market.

^^^ Well yeah... there's that. Wonder why no one ever pulled molds off on a 2000GT, bet there's a ready market for replicas.

Another someday car... the coupes are attractive too, both are tiny. 56HP @ 8500rpm, 38lb/ft for the 600.
Fussy needle bearing crank not easily rebuilt.
Nice Celica shots!
you have been doing your homework:cool:
Raj, the S800 in the slalom was hilarious. I want one! Some of the most fun that I've had was in a friend's bugeye Sprite. I was going flat out all the time, but nobody else could tell. The joy of driving a slow car fast. That little Honda on the other hand would have the alarm bells ringing - what an engine. I'll bet they are a blast to drive.
Looks like someone copied the infamous Zakspeed Capri !Attachment 201770
Raj, i really appreciate you sharing this hoard of history of Japanese sports cars! Very dedicated collecting of memorabilia. How do we know how close this obsession compares to your porsche obsession ? :)
