The Registry Traveler's Network

Did some think'n on this and this is what we've come up so far......

This will be an Early 911S Registry deal... in that you must be a paid member of the club to participate.

Not only will this hopefully grow the club, but, we felt it inappropriate for the club to help collect and organize personal contact info for members of this board in the same way paid members of the club give us implied approval of agreed info released for the club's yearly roster.

In fact my first thought was to use the yearly membership roster as the tool for this new Network...... but the idea of scrolling or thumbing through 75 pages of members seemed a bit foolish, especially when your on the road.

So...

We will create a new tool with your help....
It will take a while to collect and organize the info, but lets start here.

- If you are a paid member of the Early 911S Registry and would like to participate as a contact for our new Traveler's Network, please send an email to Fred Trueman (headed with Traveler's Network in the subject line) with your name, membership number, and the info (State, address, phone number, email address, etc.) you'd like to have appear.

- For those that don't frequent the message board, John Dilger will state the same request in the next issue of ESSES.

- With your help Fred will eventually organize this info into a simple, logical, user friendly travel tool ..... State by state, right coast to left, up and down, regions, US/foreign maps.... we don't know yet...... :o

So,
If you have data base experience collating info into a tool like we're thinking of PLEASE get in touch with Fred as well......... your ideas might be better then ours...... ;)

This is the first step..... send in your info to Fred and let's get it go'n guys...... :)

Think the DDKers have something set up too for United Kingdom. Could be worth asking them how they have their network set up as well.

You could include an international list further along the line...we'd be happy to participate; love welcoming & entertaining Porsche travellers (can't really help with breakdowns etc from way down here unless you guys bring your cars with you ;)).

Sounds great, but I haven't been following other lists so don't know how this is supposed to work/ what it should do. A little more on the purpose/point/what is hoped for would help some of us. Jim

I've been on the 356 Travel Assistance Network for a long time, and although
I didn't need it when I drove my Speedster across the country in '04, it was
really comforting knowing it was there.

We have it broken down into categories such as: Distance from your home,
Times they can contact you, and Level of assistance you can provide, from
'share a beer with you while you lament' to 'full shop with equipment at
your service.'

It's amazing what lengths car guys will go to help a brother out.
Great idea.

We do the same thing in the Hot Rod community.

Very cool!, I didn't realize that you drove out for that event, I thought you had it trailered along with Joel Horvitz and the couple of other guys from your area. Instead of my speedster, I brought down my Orange 59A coupe, and ultimately sold it at the event to a fellow member of both 356 and Registry boards.

Yeah, we had 2 Speedsters, and a Chevy for luggage.
3900 miles in 7 days w/ no real mishaps, other than a starter solenoid.
Unbelievable trip.
Was that the '59 Coupe with the Rudge wheels?

The first pass of the Registry's 'Traveler's Network' have been emailed to our members in the same PDF format as our yearly Registry 'Roster'....... :)

The bad news is.....

At this point we only have about a page and a half....... :o

These "networks" are great if everyone pitches in. The BMW Motorcycle (BMWMOA) Owners Club of America has one that looks like a small phone book. And it works.

This. I'm still currently paid up but received neither the network nor the roster PDFs. I'd be willing to contribute my info but with only about 2 years under the ownership belt not sure I can contribute much. I'm also contemplating driving down to the next Parade so have interest in a support network along the I-95 corridor and the Carolina coasts.

It's been a few months and I haven't seen any updates on this discussion. I've started thinking about it more though, as I'm planning on driving my 72T coupe from NC to CA next week. Any members along I-40 just in case......?

Starting this year Fred Trueman will be sending all new paid club members, and all renewed members, a PDF of the Registry Travlers Network and he does the Registry 'roster' ... just as another perk on becoming a paid club member.

However we need MORE Registry participation......

Email sent. I suspect the reason more people haven't signed up is because they haven't seen the request (e.g., I've been a member for a couple of years and just saw it). How about sending out an email to all members with a Reply-to header field set to Fred's email, with a list of what info is requested? I'd bet a large number not on the list would respond.
