I am getting a knocking sound from N/S rear on hard acceleration and a bit when coasting. Been there for quite a while.
Having jacked the car up with the handbrake on the O/S wheel will not move but there is a few degrees of movement (<5) when I try to rotate the N/S wheel. The movement seems to go right along the drive shaft to the gearbox end. The handbrake seems to be working OK on both wheels.
Where could the movement be coming from?
Any ideas welcome. 1967 911L.
Sounds like possibly a worn CV. When coasting do you have the clutch in or engaged?
Switch the axle - CV assemblies , right and left . Noise will go away or change if the CV's are making noise .
Is it possible that the transmission or engine mounts have a little bit of play in them, or are worn? That may allow just enough transmission/engine movement, especially under load, to occasionally make contact somewhere.
Also, I don't understand N/S, O/S. What do those mean?
Its a lovely British terminology meaning near side and offside, near is closest to driver's door, on the right side of course, and offside is near the passenger door :)
