Unbelievable !!!!
My guess was a stuck throttle...
Amazing she, and anybody close to it didn't die on the spot ...
Without the photo stand stopping her no telling what would have happened to her or where she would have ended up.
I have watched this many times trying to figure out the speed at lift-oft, very strange how the car turned into a missile after the initial impact. Lots of physics going on I suspect.

(Still have mine in the original box from 1969!)
From what I read, she is one lucky girl!
They estimate her impact with the fence at around 170mph. They had just raised the fence and cushioned the photo stand too. She was at full speed when the car in front braked early for a yellow light, she hit him and tore her right hand wheels off on the wall, so no brakes. They had installed a new higher berm which launched her over the cars in front and into the debris fence. Otherwise she would have careered into cars starting the turn in with disastrous consequences.
I love open wheelers, but they are so much more dangerous than cars with fenders.
Indeed she is lucky to be alive. The video I saw (from a variety of different angles) was impressive because, for once, you actually got the impression of the true speed of these formula cars. Most TV footage nowadays doesn’t capture that well and it’s only by going to the circuit you see the real speed they carry.
Speaks loudly to the amazing strength of the cars too... incredible engineering.
Seventeen year old girl....
That would be young for a Baseball minor league prospect, let alone majors.
