- A Well Optioned, Numbers Matching Example with All Original Interior
- Recent Mechanical Refreshing Including Top End Rebuild, Suspension, Brakes, and More
- Many Original and NOS Parts Including Abarth Quad-Tip Exhaust
- Complete with COA, Books, Tools and Spare
This particular 1968 Porsche 911, chassis number 11830146 fitted with engine number 3280309, is a numbers-matching example according to the included Porsche COA. It is finished in factory colors of Irish Green (6806) over Black Leatherette. Production completion date is listed as 10/20/1967 and it was well equipped from the factory including Wood Steering Wheel, Koni Shock Absorbers, Loudspeaker, Talbot style exterior mirror on the left, ventilated chrome wheels, and Pirelli Tires (165/15). Not much is known on the early history of the car but the current owner purchased the 911 out of the Pacific Northwest area approximately 5 years ago. During their custodianship, the current owner completed photo documented work to the engine, body, and components of the vehicle. A new coating of Irish Green Paint was skillfully laid down on the exterior of the car while keeping the interior in its nice original condition. All parts used in refreshing this car were either original or NOS. A complete top end rebuild was completed but the case was not split so it does leak a bit. The suspension and brake systems were gone through and all new parts were used in refreshing these two systems. Koni shocks were placed on all four corners and GTV6 Brembo front calipers were added. An alignment was completed and the pedal box was gone over as well. The car is currently completely rust free and the front pan and battery box were professionally replaced in the proper manner which includes drilling out the old spot welds and spot welding the new body pieces in place. The car currently wears properly date coded 5.5-inch Fuch wheels instead of the steel ventilated chrome wheels indicated on the COA although the spare is of the correct type. Overall this car has been thoroughly gone through and anything that needed refreshing was taken care of. Currently, the car needs nothing and is ready to be thoroughly enjoyed.

Passing back through is one of our most favorite Porsches we’ve ever had in inventory. We certainly have had many great rare Porsches over the years, and chassis 303997 is one of the best surviving short wheel base 911s in existence. One of our sayings here is all great cars have great homes, you just don’t find these original 911s on the market place. We first acquired chassis 303997 approximately 15 years ago. We were a bit skeptical when we got the phone call, but astonished when we saw this no storied 911 in it’s original state complete with all the “spares” we’re typically looking for. Accompanied by it’s manuals, jack, tool kit, and service documentation (verifying it’s original 86K miles) this ’66 SWB is that much more special.
Chassis 303997 had sat for nearly 20 years before us, and when we got it home we brought the 911 back to life. Taking care of typical mechanical items and a lot of elbow grease rubbing on the thin paint. The outcome as 303997 still sits today in it’s beautiful unmolested state, and everything you would expect from a 52 year old well cared for 911. The “patina” tells that there are no stories, and you leave every blemish alone b/c it’s only original once and lends to the provenance on 303997. We all know the iconic status of the first generation 911, but to have one as it left the factory in a great color combo is simply special. Chassis 303997 is ready for it’s next owner/driver who will no doubt appreciate the originality and continue to drive and preserve this spectacular early 911.

Auction Description:
- One of only 268 911 soft-window Targas built in 1968
- Fully matching-numbers; accompanied by Certificate of Authenticity
- Last year for the SWB style, preferred by many collectors
- 77,000-miles with all-original Leatherette interior, radio, steering wheel, and trim
- Fresh repaint in its original rare shade of Sand Beige (6807)
- Original books and manuals, including stamped “Maintenance Record” logbook
This 1968 Porsche 911 Soft Window Targa is one of only 268 examples built that year. The Soft Window Targa is a highly desirable body style offering a full open-air 911 motoring experience, one not repeated by Porsche until the SC Cabriolet arrived in ’83. Nineteen sixty-eight was the last year for the SWB body style – a shape preferred by many Porsche collectors who appreciate the purity of the original 911 design.
This rare 911 is a fully matching-numbers example with a copy of its Porsche COA. The car shows 77,000 miles, believed original, and a preserved original interior featuring its factory black leatherette seats, door panels, armrests, dash, mats, mostly original carpeting, rare rear seat delete compartment, Blaupunkt radio, steering wheel, trim, and accessories. Even the convertible rear window and Targa top are original; the tonneau boot is new.
The car recently finished full disassembly and repaint in its rare factory shade of Sand Beige code no. 6807. Fewer than 500 miles have been driven since a full, documented engine rebuild was performed. This is a U.S.-delivery car that was sold new from distributor Porsche Cars Northwest to Riviera Motors in Portland, Oregon. It has its original books and manuals, including its stamped Maintenance Record logbook.

Dealer Description:
- Early series Porsche 911
- Full restoration by Car Parc USA
- Matching numbers engine and transmission
- 3 owners since new
- A California car for over 50 years
- Includes copy of Kardex and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
According to the Porsche Kardex, this Golf Blue 911 completed production on September 20th, 1965. Optioned with tinted glass, 2 headrests in leather, a Blaupunkt “Frankfurt” radio, loudspeaker, antenna, 2 pairs of seatbelts, Phoenix tires and a Webasto heater, the car was shipped to Competition Motors of Culver City, California. Competition Motors, owned by John von Neumann, was one of the largest dealers in Southern California and the major dealer of Porsche and Volkswagen. William Rasmussen of Yorba Linda, California would become the first owner of this early-series 911, beginning its 50+ year stay in California.
This Golf Blue 911 would find itself with three different owners, all of which were in Southern California. According to the Porsche Kardex, the second owner went by the name of M. Salas, and would remain with him until the most recent owner, Craig Anderson, acquired the car. Based in Garden Grove, California, Anderson had his title issued on October 4th, 1980 and would keep the car for almost 32 years, selling the car to this 911’s restorer, Car Parc USA on August 21st, 2012.
Once in Car Parc USA’s facility, they wasted no time in restoring this early-series Porsche 911 to its original specifications. The car was completely disassembled down to the last piece of hardware, tagged and marked for servicing, restoration and reassembly. The 911 had been repainted at some point during its life in the incorrect color, making the decision easy for Car Parc USA to take the 911 down to bare metal to inspect the original sheet metal. Upon inspection, the car had no accident damage and retained its original factory steel. The metal was primed, blocked and sanded laser straight for the factory-correct Golf Blue paint finish. With the body now completed, Car Parc USA moved their sights to the rest of the car.
With all of the mechanical and cosmetic components removed from the car during the disassembly, each and every component was inspected, serviced and refinished. The matching-numbers engine was rebuilt in-house by Car Parc USA, bumped up to 2.2 liters for a little bit of extra power. The interior was created by Auto International and fitted by Car Parc USA, and the original gauges were rebuilt and refinished by Palo Alto Speedometer. All plating was sent out to be redone in their factory-spec finishes, new shock absorbers on all four corners and the suspension refinished in factory black. Exterior brightwork was replated and now dazzles with a sheen that would match the original-delivered car. With everything now reassembled, the early-series Porsche 911 now looked as amazing as when it first arrived in California 54 years ago.
Upon arrival at Canepa, this early-series Porsche 911 was inspected from front to back. Through the “Canepa Difference” process, the entire car was mechanically inspected, ensuring it was the best it can be. Then a meticulous concours-level detail followed, ensuring that no stone was unturned and that every surface was cleaned, including underneath, its interior and trunk, and its engine bay. A very light foam-pad polish enhanced the luster of the Golf Blue paint even more, producing a show-quality finish. The restored interior has the simple charm of early 911s, with the excellent Golf Blue paint finish accenting the curves of this Porsche. The opportunity to experience an early-series 911 is a rare occasion, and what better way to do it that in a car that has been professionally restored and looked over. Delivered to California, driven in California and restored in California, this 1965 Porsche 911 is capable of producing smiles no matter where you go.
