A tale of circumstance and timing…
Some may know this story... I've even told a little of it on this board... but... :)
For the Year of the Porsche at Monterey in ’98 I was parked in the PCA corral, which was this time, down on the display lane because Porsche was the featured mark. I was waiting to watch the ‘exemplar’ parade laps begin with the rest of the people… This was one of each year 911 and 911S picked as an example of the mark by Joe Hartman (valuation chairman) of the PCA National. These beautiful examples were parked opposite me on the other side of the lane. My friend, Fred Stewart, came running up to me and said “Park over there between the ’72 and the RS, I’ll be right back!!!” To my “I can’t do that!!!” Fred shouted “JUST DO IT!!!” Fred came back with an Exemplar window sticker and a Porsche Historic Certificate hastily hand written by Joe Hartman… he even miss-spelled my city of Reseda.
So, me and my buddy Thierry got in my car and got in line to go out right in between Dr. Tom Chang’s drop dead ‘72S Targa and a beautiful RS Touring.
I didn’t know Hartman then, and he certainly didn’t know my car. All he knew is that Bata Mataja couldn’t bring his already picked, perfect, ex-Otis Chandler ‘73S to line in time for the parade laps and he needed another example. Fred convinced him that I had a pretty nice car… not saying anything about my RS Flares and ducktail. As we got closer to where Joe Hartman was checking off the chosen cars to go out on the track I noticed Joe getting a little nervous about this blue car in his line, by the time we got to him with this pretty nice flared and tailed example of a ‘73S I swear he had a full left eye twitch…. But on the track we went…… Still one on the coolest Porsche moments I’ve had...... ;)
BTW- Through the years I’ve become friends with Joe and we both laugh at this now… :)
BTW2- I bet my ass that Joe won’t let me, or anyone else, get away with it again... :D
The proof.........

here are a few more interesting "cool" items. If this works I guess I'll post a
