More Inane California Law!

LOL. Who votes these clowns into office?

Apparently this law doesn't apply to motorcycles which from personal experience can raise more hell than a mule in a tin stall! I've been around bikes that could set off a block of car alarms. I may have owned one or two...:rolleyes:

“California law requires that all vehicles must be equipped with an adequate muffler to prevent excessive noise from the exhaust system. It also prohibits the operation of a passenger vehicle (other than a motorcycle), or a truck with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 6,000 pounds, that has an exhaust noise level greater than 95 decibels, when tested under specified conditions.” Now, this part isn’t anything new – AB 1824 is more of a revision than a new law.

Welcome to the civilized world. Ever looked into the noise limits in Europe? Switzerland?

Wouldn't be so stupid if Harley's and the like were also subject to this.

There have been laws on the books in California regarding modified exhausts and excessive noise levels for years. They apply to cars, trucks and motorcycles.

They are rarely enforced, like many of California's laws.

This one doesn't give the option to make a repair like the old bill. It's a $1,000 ticket, right now.

Fine amount varies per county (~$200) plus any BAR inspection fees and any pre and post BAR work.

over here in the EU the maximum allowed nois emmision is 89db...and this is an exeption only for historic vehicles.
all others (depending on date of first registration in the EU,weight,purpose,power output , single or multi-lane,and what type of fuel or fuel managment is used)ranging from 71db to 86db..
96db in Cali vs 86db EU is only 10db less but 10db less means about half the nois felt.
on the other side there are the E-vehicles...those must be louder(0-20km/h) by mid 2019.

But to care so much about 'emulating' other countries in the dubious area of db's reveals other priorities. "Hey, they pull this stuff in the EU, so WE can do what THEY do to hassle enthusiasts ?!"

The last thing I'd want to do is emulate the EU-their regulations/fines/penalties are far more pervasive than ours-even in a dysfunctional mess of a state like California.
