This magnificent 911S was manufactured on 17th August 1967 and was shipped to AFN, being one of two 1968 model year cars delivered to them in September 1967. Both cars were registered on the same day, the 4th September, one as AFN's demonstrator car together with the car we have for sale, chassis number 11800138, which was registered to Mr. G. Berry of Market Harborough. Undoubtedly, Mr. Berry was the first private individual in the UK to own a 911S; he loved the car so much he continued to own the car until June 2000. The second owner was a Mr. R. Willis who was the custodian of OUW 6F until June 2011 when the current vendor purchased her. The vendor is a very knowledgeable Porsche enthusiast and has been restoring this matching numbers example for the last six years. The bodywork has been stripped and any replacement panels were genuine Porsche items, the ivory white paintwork was carried out by a respected Porsche specialist. The interior was removed, revealing the dash-top signature and VIN from the factory in 1967. Where necessary interior panels were replaced although the vendor together with Garry Hall at Classic FX trimming have painstakingly tried to retain as much of the original trim where possible, the rare elephant hide seats are in splendid condition. The matching numbers engine and gearbox have been totally refurbished and rebuilt and, at the time of writing, have covered no mileage. This Porsche 911S is as close to the specification and condition when she left the factory 50 years ago as you could expect, even the original Fuchs alloy wheels have the date stamped on them. She is supplied with the original buff logbook, a current MoT test certificate and an interesting history folder; over the past 50 years few sports cars have proved as versatile as Porsche's perennial 911, it is difficult to find early example Porsches and even more difficult to find one in this condition.

Auction Description:
This superb example benefits from a cosmetic respray in its original and very popular colour metallic Gemini Blue, it has the optional Recaro Sports seats and is certified with matching numbered engine and gearbox. Having been in private ownership in the UK since early 2015 and serviced by the main specialists for these classic Porsche models, this example is supplied fully serviced and ready to be used by any new owner. Prices of Targa's have risen steadily because the dynamic of ownership has changed to investment cars that can also be enjoyed and having languished behind the more aesthetically pleasing coupé, the focus is turning to the much more practical and enjoyable Targa. The 911 2.4S Targa is now categorised, understandably, as a true collectors vehicle helped, no doubt, by the news of the launch of the new Targa model from Porsche that incorporates its early stainless steel roll over hoop design. It won't be long before prices of the 2.4S Targa eclipse those of the coupé so this example represents an shrewd investment opportunity.

- Austrian delivery
- Matching Numbers,
- Family owned for over 40 years
- Superb features, overhauled engine!
Besides a gripping history, this 911 S thrills with its opulent features, including an electric sunroof, electric windows, tinted windows and genuine leather seats, with a sports seat for the driver. Submitted with the vehicle, the copy of the Austrian individual approval states that the car was registered by Porsche Salzburg as a showroom automobile on 28 July 1971. The Porsche was purchased by the owner’s family as early as 1976. For 40 years, the S was a source of immense pleasure for the father and then the son. In 1994, the son had the bodywork refurbished with original components, and took the S with him when he moved to Germany. The car comes with the original service booklet and many inspection receipts for the last 20 years. The original engine, including the throttle valves, was overhauled by a firm of German experts in September 2016. The exhaust system and heat exchanger were also renewed. The invoice for the work has been submitted, and it is still under warranty, of course. The 911 recently completed its major German introspection as well. So if you want a 911, then pick an S. If it’s a 911 S, it has to be the 2.2. And here it is!

According to its certificate of authenticity, this 911 S left the Porsche factory in October 1966, finished in Polo Red and equipped with desirable options including Recaro sport seats and a limited-slip differential. It later was imported into the US, and Vintage Motorcar Restorations in Atlanta comprehensively restored it in its original colors of Polo Red over black in 2005 at the behest of a former owner, with the car placing favorably in numerous concours events.
The car’s next owner had respected marque specialists Paterek Brothers modify this car in 2009 so it would closely resemble the 911 S that Vic Elford and David Stone drove to victory in the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally. Autohaus of Chatham, New Jersey, rebuilt the original 2.0-liter engine during this time. Replete with driving lights, a rally timer, passenger map light, rear wiper, and other period-correct details, Elford proclaimed this car “a spectacular, exact nut-and-bolt re-creation. Exactly as we drove it” in 1967. With a distinctive motorsport character, this Porsche is accompanied by a set of Fuchs wheels, its original sport seats, tools, and extensive documentation. Ready to be driven and enjoyed in its current rally form, this 911 S could also be returned to original specification, should its next owner desire.

Auction Description:
We are pleased to offer this particular 911 S 2.2 Coupe which was manufactured in February 1970 in left-hand drive form and was subsequently delivered to the USA where is was sold to its first owner in March of that year. Specifications and options at that time included a black leatherette interior, front and rear spoiler delete and tinted side glass and windshield. First registered in the UK on 9th September 2000, this car was sourced by our vendor, himself a serial Porsche owner for the last 20 years, who purchased it in January 2011. This 'matching numbers' car is finished in Ivory White with a black interior and whilst the body and paintwork were in excellent condition, our vendor felt other areas of the car could be improved upon.
The car was sent to respected marque specialist JAZ Porsche who removed the engine and gearbox. The top ancillaries were stripped off and items powder coated/replaced where necessary. The carburettors were sent away to a specialist for a full rebuild at the same time. The gearbox was stripped and all 5 synchros were replaced, before being reassembled and mated to the engine once again. New engine mounts, fuel hoses and a fuel pump were also fitted at this time for which there are invoices included in the file.
The car was then sent to Sportwagen where it had some minor cosmetic work and new front and rear torsion bars, along with new rear shock absorbers. New Rennsport Sports seats with black corduroy centres were fitted, giving the interior a stylish look. The result of all this focused effort is a remarkable car with quality paintwork and excellent panel gaps. It retains its original aluminium engine lid and, unlike most US-cars of this era, the original dashboard remains straight and crack-free. The gauges have been restored and we believe the Blaupunkt 'Frankfurt' radio is period correct and original to the car.
Our vendor comments that this 911 S 2.2 is "a true pleasure to drive with its rev-happy feel. The engine starts easily, pulls strongly through the rev range with a tight ride, excellent handling and braking. The five-speed dog-leg changes smoothly and is truly addictive."
Supplied with a good history file, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, its original drivers manual, and a jack and toolkit, this matching numbers car is MOT tested until 8th February 2018. With 911S 2.2s becoming increasingly rare in the market place, this quality example would make a sensible investment, or is simply ready to be driven as intended.
