Yes I know quite the detail but I want to get it right. Putting the bumper endcaps back on my 1970 and the rubber trim has a long side and a short side. I believe the long side is the outside or visible side but I would like confirmation. Also, are 1/8 aluminum pop rivets the way to go or is the factory version the metric equivalent or something else. Insight is appreciated. Thanks, Tom
1/8” rivets are correct. I put long side visible.
Short side is visible. Pop rivets are okay.

The untouched ones I've seen have been long side under the trim. I assumed it was to have more material under the trim so as to have more material for a better grip. So that's what I've always done. As usual maybe someone can show a confirmed untouched car.
