Thanks all for the feed back. Sounds like more art than science. Best to have a sample piece to experiment with.
I remember hearing once to use toothpaste.
Down under here in New Zealand our roads in places have crappy surfaces and stone chips are common. All the major Auto Glass replacement companies offer to fill and polish these (and cracks that are recent) out.
They also offer commercial shop front glass repairs for when people (would love to use an expletive ) scratch graffiti on the glass.
Below is a link (not that its geographically handy) but surely there are companies that can help you.
I had a M5 bmw that someone wearing a ring had stuffed the inside surface and this was repaired (same day) to near perfect.
