Hi.
How can you tell the difference between a 1974 and a 1978 7x15 inch Fuchs wheel without removing the hub cap? Does anyone have a photo (or can take one) of the two types together?

I assume by hub cap you mean center cap, even removing the center cap will not help date the wheel both take the round friction fit caps. Only way to date them is to look at the date stamp inside back.
Sure about that, Mike? From what I have heard, the way the center cap is attached differs AND the rim profile has a marginally different shape at some edges. Now, I don't care about numbers, I just want to make sure the car will look period correct even with slightly newer wheels.
1974s should have the later ring-type caps vs. the early ‘73 three-prong. From the outside, there's no visually difference between 1974 and 1978, 15" Fuchs. I don't think you could even use an inspection mirror w/ light to try to illuminate the date stamps with the wheels attached.
