Rob,
I think I read somewhere that it might be stamped on the back of the door handle. I think it would be necessary to remove the handle from the door to get the code.
Can anyone with an 1970+ door handle off the car confirm this?

I already knew it - came with the paperwork with the car - i just had this other one with the small key and different number that i have never been able to trace (not tried hard either). I suspect at some time there may have been a replacement door lock or something - I had to rekey one (from memory) of the doors when i got the car. (ie he changed the internals in the door lock to match all the locks)
the guys at Porsche can confirm the key number that is original to the car - at some stage in the past i checked and the key number i have now is original to the car.
I spoke with the Porsche dealer parts dept. They just need a copy of the title or registration and copy of your drivers license. They can then get the HC# from Porsche.
The Porsche dealer was able to provide the key code, however it turns out I had it all the time. I found it hand written in the Maintenance record. Check out the pics.
Carl, thanks again for doing this for our community.
Two notes regarding these cards:
1) A hand written number can also be appropriate. I stumbled across the battered original DOM card to my '79 911SC and the number is hand written. This may in fact be a later change but it'll work in a pinch ;)
2) I will have these cards at the LA Lit Show along with a few of my other items. Tony Euganeo, a longtime fixture at the Lit Show, can sell you the correct red valet key blanks and cut them on the spot. You'll then have two freshly cut valet keys w/ tag ready for that concours glove box by Saturday afternoon.
I still have these for anyone who has reoccurring nightmares of a glove box opening concours judge. :D
Question, I have a Red Key from my car with a sticker on it that reads NC XXX. I’m assuming that NC denotes the Valet key and HC the Master Key, Correct?
Carl are you still selling these replacement cards ?
Hi Carl-
Received my DOM key cards the other day, they look great! I though I would post a photo of my spare key with the factory sticker and plastic snap ring on it attached to the card.
