16mm swar bar bushing size...

I rounded up a nominally sized 16mm stock rear sway bar and I'm trying to determine what size bushing to use. I'm thinking it came from a '68. However, the bushing locations for the chassis mount and the drop link have a unique shape to them - they're not flat and are reduce in size to around 15mm+. This is a first for me. I've already ordered 16mm bushings, but now I think they may be oversized.

1 - Has anyone seen a bar like that?
2 - Could the age and wear have reduced the size (don't think so as the paint is shiney there)

I'm attaching a crude, exaggerated pdf to illustrate the shape (better than a photo as it's pretty subtle).

A picture of the bar would help. Doesn't sound like a 68 bar.

Yes. Any bar working in torsion is limited by its smallest cross section.
Disregarding the end chamfers, I believe that the early rear stabilizer bars had a constant cross-section.

A quick note before I take some photos...

I just spent the big bucks and got "Porsche" 16mm bushings for the drop link section and the mating surface inside the bushing has a small groove in the center that corresponds with the contour of the bushings area of the bar. Interesting. Did 944s, others have such a bar?

My bar looks like JimmyT's example.

I don't know what you have, but the original correct bushings did not have any grooves in the bushing, or the bar under the bushing. Pictures would help.

Nope, not made that way, diameter would be a consistant 16mm all the way. That is just simply worn down.

Okay. You are the 2nd very informed expert to say that. I guess after 50 years, the bushings can were out the metal - especially if dirt and crud grind away. Thanks for taking the time. BTW - I'm thinking '67 based on a PET of that period.
