The sound of the 250 Ferrari 12 cylinder is simply wonderful. I've always been amazed at how some owners of multi-million dollar cars thrash them, wheel to wheel on track in the UK.
I'd like to think that I'd do the same if I had the chance, but honestly, I'm not sure.

I have same thoughts........and Id like to share this:

I built a track day toy yrs ago.....an e30 built up w/ an engine swap, suspension etc etc etc......

when Im tracking, my biggest worry is going "off" or breaking something.....so besides my safety, its about my money and funds. Id think if my funds were kinda unlimited Id be into "thrashing" more and Id be faster for sure.....


sooooooo, that makes me think many of the Goodwood car owners( perhaps not all but many..) just go balls to the wall and have the hired drivers do the same.

Please keep in mind that some of these cars are... replicas. Nearly perfectly made, but replicas anyway.

The greatest trick is to own an original and use a replica for the races. This way, your unvaluable car (well, almost) will not be damaged and it is also less costly to insure for racing.

tru.......but I would guess these "replicas" can be what........250 000 usd on up?

Charles Gordon-Lennox, (11th Duke of Richmond), was asked on TV whether he would admit the newly built lightweight E Types built by Jaguar with those half dozen previously unused lightweight E type numbers from 50 years ago. He was clear, said that he would not allow them at Goodwood. (Actually I can imagine them at FOS in the various parades on hillclimb but seemingly not welcome at MM or Revival). Seven figure sum for those cars I suppose. "Replicas ...and replicas"... apparently.

There is clearly a line "of some sort" in his mind at least around this topic of authenticity and the invitation to go racing replica at Goodwood MM and Revival on his family's race track. Not sure what position would be if owner also had one of the £5-6m originals too? Put Jaguar in an interesting position with their marketing of these examples to selected well heeled customers when they were asked on same programme about event eligibility. Goodwood is just one venue, but is however the subject venue of this post.

The folks with Austin A35s and even well connected pedal car kids seem to have fun so not just big bucks or exotica alone. Genuine articles of the rarities do race hard and get bent there however.

Never worked in historic part of Motorsport so I dont know but happened to be catching up on the TV programme about those 6 Jags heard comment then coincidentally read this post. He was very clear on it. Actually I discussed it with my wife who saw programme too. She's not at all a motor racing car event person. She agreed with Lord March about these 6 E types -- so he must be absolutely right on this one!! :)

Pretty sure in those 6 cases becase they never raced in period despite having jaguar make them.

A good friend (former Lotus colleague) is the MD in one of the biggest U.K. Classic outfits that preps a lot cars for likes of MM and Revival (and all that kind of international event) for very well heeled owners. I'll ask him if he knows groundrules next time we speak. Sure he'll be very discreet but he might give some guidance on a "line". If there is any logic to it.
