I'll be there in my '52. Definitely won't be getting any speeding tickets in that one.
Trying to plan a drive though the hills on Thursday. Track time Friday and Saturday.
great, I'll be there racing two of my cars. Really looking forward to it!
Driving up from SoCal Thursday and spending lots of time at the track (and looking for that '52! nice!) I cant wait and my wife probably cant wait either as it will mean her parking space in the garage will be available for once
Driving up Wednesday from Socal, set-up our booth on vendor row-artwork and apparel(plus a couple of really cool early 911s that will be rotating displays) and generally enjoying the week-end! Stop by(SWB Studios) and say hi.
Thrilled to have my buddy Vic Ofner join me at Rennsport.
He's like a walking/talking Porsche Wikipedia.
We'll drive up in our turbo look that Vic recently restored.
(So no sliding or jumping on the 229 this time to Rennsport)
Plan is exercise/hike the entire area Vendor row, pits, car corrals and corkscrew everyday.
Anyone driving down from NorCal/SF area?
Speaking of SF area... Thursday am drive from Monterey up the coast to Santa Cruz then to Saratoga, CA taking CA9. CA9 is a fantastic mountain road. Lunch in Saratoga and then the easy way back to Monterey.
The other fun run is down to Carmel Valley- Jamesburg. Some neat twisties there too, but not as mountainous.
Doug DePew and I will trailer my car to the event from Colorado. It appears Jon Bingham (The Metal Surgeon) will be with us also. If we had one more year we would have brought Doug's 2.7 POLO car. We'll have to find a good event next year to bring it to.
I'm disorganizing :) the Momo Road to Rennsport Tour. Starting in So Cal (location to be announced), we take to the back roads September 27th (Thursday) , Lunch and Laps at Buttonwillow, then more back roads to a reception area at Laguna Seca late that afternoon. Special parking passes will be provided to RR Tour entrants.
So if you are NOT racing at RR 6, then you can enjoy some terrific roads and track time before the long weekend
Contact me for the event info
thanks
Dave
Planning my trip from New Zealand again. I’m assuming practise is Fri, racing is Sat & Sun. So is Thu just a roll up, set up & mingle day? if so I’ll fly in Thu lunch time. Looking forward to catching up with many Porsche friends!
Any info appreciated.
Gary
Hi Gary I'm pretty sure Thursday is practice as well.
Thanks, Fubawu. I might fly in Thu and head straight to the track then!
My plan is to attend the East Coast 912 Rendezvous in Roanoke (I am planning the event), and return back home on Sept 16 in Ohio. On Sept 19 I repack the car for the much longer trip (more spares and stuff, and camping gear), and Sept 22 at 6 AM, i head west.
My plan is to drive to Rennsport, and camp out at national parks the way out and back (most of the time) heading through RMNP or MVNP and maybe Arches. After Rennsport I will leave the car at a friends shop in Anaheim for some maintenance and tuning, and then fly home out of SNA.
A month later I will fly back with my wife, pick up the car and then head to Solvang for the West Coast 912 Rendezvous (which I am also planning). After I will drop the wife off for her solo flight home, and I will continue my road trip heading back home, stopping at national parks all the way back, especially spending 3-4 days in AZ/UT parks.
oh, and I will be camping at Rennsport too.. anyone else camping at the track? or does everyone have hotels?
Hoffman912 Sounds like an epic Month!! I've got a large group with me so I rented a house near the track.
I am driving out from Minnesota, back roads only going the northern route through wyoming. Any tips on roads anyone?
Yes. Come in Through the Black Hills. Through Gillette to Sheridan Wy. Then south to Buffalo on 25. Then west over the Big Horn Mts to the Big Horn Canyon to Tensleep WY. Find your way from there to Red Lodge MT. Then up and over the Beartooth Highway and Dead Indian Pass to Cody. Then through Yellowstone To Teton Natl Park and The ID border. Or skip Cody and go through Yellowstone direct to Jackson and Teton Park from Red Lodge. DO NOT MISS THE BEARTOOTH HIGHWAY! From JH WY it is 12 to 13 hrs to Reno on mostly interstate. That's how I would do it with a few variations here and there. You can camp almost anywhere along the way once in WY at that time of year.
BIG +1 Steve...Quote:
DO NOT MISS THE BEARTOOTH HIGHWAY!
Did that drive on a trip across the country in the summer of '71...
I remember shouting to my friend... "... is that silver thread all the way down there the river we were at an hour ago ???"
Almost 50 years on one of the things that most sticks is THAT part of the trip... Breathtaking !!!!
hey I added that one purely based on google maps. I was like, whoa, that looks really good!
Kris,
If interested in doing a caravan and down with camping (no obligation of course), you can meet up with me near Denver, and head through Rocky Mountain National Park, Dinosaur NP, etc. I am tentatively scheduled to meet up with Eric (PMB) in Utah before heading across Nevada. My plan would be Columbus-KC (Sept 22), KC-Den (sept 23), Den-SLC (sept 24), SLC-SFO (Sept 25). Keith has also expressed interest in joining the misadventures as well.
Side note we are taking absolutely no interstate the majority of the way. Attachment 464056
That looks good but your are missing spectacular roads and scenery through the Big Horns and Tetons. Looks like you are going out of YNP through West Yellowstone. Kind of blah through there to Craters. Idaho spud fields and high desert. 93 to 50 is a good way to Cali. 50 is really a good drive.
Thanks for making me SO JEALOUS, guys!!!!!
I get to sit in a jet for 11 hours there and on the back .... But when I get to Monterey I'll be making up for it.
HOWEVER, if anyone has an empty passenger seat and would like a contribution to their fuel costs, I could be persuaded to fly into LAX depending on your schedule!!!!!
I am with you Kris, B roads are the best way. the only freeway I planned on was 70 to get to Colorado as quickly as possible and to blast through the planes. From there its mostly b roads once I get to the fun mountain states.
I was on track at Laguna last month and I can tell you the track is in great condition.
Some new to me aprons added for erosion control in critical places.
For example at the top of the corkscrew at the left apex where a stack of tires normally is located.
Now a nice 2 foot wide abrasive concrete apex apron adds grip if you get your left front tire on it.
After spectating Rennsport might have to return October 20/21 for the Alfa Club event with the 911 to get some more seat time at Laguna Seca.
(92 db limit this event)
If you want to get on Laguna Seca this is a fun group to share the track.

Really looking forward to Pre Reunion and Reunion with 8 sounds free sessions/races schedule for our IMSA GTO Camaro. :D
Favorite route to the track, just because I prefer to avoid crowded hwy 68 and the steep hill at the main entrance.

Not my video, just a nice look at the track aprons

When is everyone arriving? I am on the fence about thursday. I might camp in big sur or Pinnacle National Park or spend an extra day in the bay area with friends. Any advantages of getting in Thursday instead of Friday mid-morning?
Crowds will be smaller, and with being a practice day guys will be more apt to chat. I think Thursday is the best day of the bunch
I am entered in the PCA Club Race Group in my 1973 Signal Orange 2.7 MFI race car. #3. The current plan is to have my car hauled out and supported by Accumotto out of Wisconsin. Stop by the tent and introduce yourself.
My experience is that Thursday is a pretty busy set-up day but pretty laid back as well... Friday is busier with practice sessions but more access to the drivers...Quote:
Thats what i was thinking. How crowded is Friday? Is it that much more difficult to chat with drivers on Friday?
The good news is as BIG as Rennsport is, it's a bit smaller event then the Historics…
So a little less congestion on the VERY easily slammed roads around the track and Monterey peninsula...
Cheers,
cm
Thanks. I have only been to Laguna for the pre-historics (which wasnt busy).
The schedule hasn't been released yet but as it is a four day event, I'm expecting to be on track all four days, although probably only one session per day.
a heck of a long tow from Minnesota for four sessions on track but.........it's Rennsport.......at Laguna
It sounds like Wednesday will be the load in day for competitors.
I think it's going to be two sessions per day
Thanks for the update. I've been to the last three RR's but for the life of me can't remember how many sessions a day each group was on track as I didn't race in any of the previous RR's.
It would be nice if the organizers would post the schedule
I am sure there will be a big group heading down from the bay area probably on Thursday morning early, hit me up and I can keep you informed.
The RR VI schedule has now been posted on the Laguna Seca web site as well as being emailed to all participants.
A pretty full four days with a number of exhibition laps, tours of the track and even a bit of racing.
Hey guys, here is my revised route. thoughts? I wasnt going to go through Yosemite, as its usually so busy, but I figure at the end of september, it might actually be a nice drive through there? I'm thinking of heading through salt lake city, check out antelope island, and the salt flats. and then head through highway 50 across nevada.

I'm flying out to Hawaii from SFO on the 18th, returning the 25th, and then meeting my son Mike in his 83 SC hot rod (both cars currently on the truck on their way to Emeryville), driving to Monterey from Emeryville the morning of the 26th; hoping to caravan with the Norcal guys and Mike. We are staying at some house he got through HomeAway. Parade laps on Thursday!
I'll be running my GT in Group 3. Come by my pit area, grab a cold water and say hi.
John

Cool, John! I'll look for you! I see we have Hurley Haywood, Patrick Long, and Jurgen Barth also in Group 3.
John
That's awesome! Im lucky enough to have Jurgen Barth and Kevin Estre driving my Carrera during practice in Group 4
John where do you see that grid? I saw Hurley , Barth listed in group 4 I know it is constantly changing.
Looks like a new list out now.
John
We've got a small contingent coming from the PNW....leaving Monday, arriving Thursday, finding some epic roads along the way, can't wait. Hey Bill, Chuck - looking forward to seeing you there.
I just noticed I'm a senior member here ....... LOL. When/how did that happen? Ravi.
Ravi, you've always been senior in my book. See ya in Monterey!
(It has to do with post count.)
Would anyone have insight into the facilities at the track for folks who are recovering from foot surgery (clutch foot !!) and hobbling about with a medical boot and a crutch - I will be bringing my temporary handicap badge so hopefully parking available .. how easy will it be to get around - I recall there being carts when I was a Rennsport last time ...
Where & when will the Early 911S shop be open ?
There is physically challenged parking in several areas. I'd shoot for 2, Blue (across from the Ticket Office). They can tell you how to get to the nearby Spectator Assistance carts.

Attachment 469292Getting closer to getting there. Getting new Pirelli CN 36 tires at PZero world in LA. Great place. And man do new tires improve the handling!!! Driving up the coast tomorrow.
Just loaded in Attachment 469312Attachment 469313Attachment 469314
Thanks Jimmy ...
I'll be at and around Gunnar Racing...
Good luck to everyone.
I know at least one member here didn't make it to the event. Had a fire from a stuck needle valve on the drive out. Not horrible but fires are only good if you're grilling.
Do you have the actual route you took? Didn’t you go by Yosemite?
...just going through 100's of pics, I really liked coming home in the evening to our hotel and seeing this line up...
...with a bit of traffic lights
This was our Rennsport6 debut of the 9148-gtt build, which kept me hostage in the exhibit tent most of the show. Although not air cooled; she is a total Porsche drivetrain built on the VW/ Porsche unibody. It was a great reveal...and thanks to all that stopped by !
Nice... :)
In that first group that's John Dilger black car with AASE header, Lars' 'Big Ass Targa', and mine in the back...
I took one of those... but without your cool effects...and a few drinks.... ;)
Thanks,
cm
Here's a few more. only 42 months until the next one!! That's an estimate ;)
