Pretty sure you didn't get a 4-speed in a 911 from 65-66. That's most likely a 912 trans.
Pretty sure you are guessing wrong. According to the Porsche Technical Specifications Book, page 62, shows 911 trans numbers 160001 to 162462 up to July 26 1965. A 912 would have serial number 163001 to 165214. The ratios are:
11:34; 19:32; 24:27; 28:24 w/ 7:31 ring and Pinion. This info is also backed up by the Blue Sky Motorsports website that rebuilds Porsche transmissions. "The transmission was designed as a 5-speed however 4-speed versions were offered. The shift pattern is considered to be odd with reverse at the top left and first on the bottom left. This makes for a more difficult 1st to 2nd up-shift." This is why many opted for the 4 speed "H" pattern.
history ...?
Tom, that goes against my database. I had the same in my charts, but that goes against actual installation. As Dan says: no 4-speed in a 911 from 65-66.
160001 to 162462 was 1966 912, and 163001 to 165214 was 1967 912. 200001 to 200402 was 1967 911. So 16xxxx for 1.6L 912 and 20xxxx for 2.0L 911
