Speedo Angle Drive Set Screw into Transmission with Broken Helicoil
I was working to replace the original Speedo Angle Drive unit on my 1970 911T, which was giving me a clicking noise independent of the speedo cable.
The set screw above the angle drive was loosened to release the angle drive unit. But the set screw was wiggling in it's threads as I was loosening it, which felt weird.
When I went to re-install the set screw, I realized that the set screw threads had a helicoil in the transmission case that had broken free of the case. Note the red Loctite. See the photos below.
Is there supposed to be a helicoil in the transmission case in this area or was this area repaired by a previous mechanic?
The transmission was rebuilt about 10 years ago.
Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks,
