Hey guys, I'm color blind :eek: and I'm in need of a little help. I am looking for pictures of early 911s painted in shades of non-metallic Porsche blues for comparison reasons. In particular I need pictures of cars in Dalmation Blue and Cobalt Blue.
If there are others - i.e. Mexico Blue - please feel free to post and label.

I will check my camera, somebody arrived at Emorys on sunday morning
with a 7osomething T Targa done in Cobalt which is a metallic from the 964
968 and 996 years Looked good but very metallic for a long nose. I almost parked my Oxford blue(329) which is considered Dalmation. Someone may have some of that car on the board
I was told that Cobalt Blue was a non-metallic color. So, I guess the richest non-metallic Porsche blue would be Dalmation. What about this car, anyone know what this color is? Someone said that it was either Arrow Blue or Acid Blue. Anybody know?

That looks like John Forcier's car (Fishcop on Pelican) - if it is, it's Ossi Blue.

No success resizing pictures of my 1972 Albert Blue 911 T 2.5S coupe to post directly to this tread. Have tried for months with no success.

My Oxford blue (Dalmation) has a purple tint in real life, Albert blue is actually quite dark (sold My targa this year, I will return to Germany next week where I have all the color samples in the factory book, be careful digital cameras
dont represent blue well at low dpi and the sunlight is a huge factor.
There were a couple of Blues that were rare but more toward a bright, royal
Blue you probably are looking for, both the Albert Blue and Dalmation are much darker in person than thse pictures suggest !
For the 68 I do have the Sonderfarben/ Special Colors Factory booklet. The 4 special colors mentioned in there are: Crystal blue, Pastel blue, metallic blue and Ultra blue.

Seriously, I think that Albert Blue may be the best matched, but Im sure there are others with more experience that can chime in.
I agree with cornpanzer. Dalmation Blue will change shades of blue based on the lighting. It has a purplish tint in the shade and a lighter blue in the sun. Someone on this board should be able to give you the color recipe for Sunoco blue, I've see that color scheme before....although it could have been on Pelican.

Heres a link to some pictures of the Albert Blue car Cornpanzer posted. The color varies alot depending on the light as you'll see in the pictures... But generally it's a deeper darker blue. Dalmation in comparisons is much more purple .

Well Gruen,, its all about variety. Owning many 911's. I'm more into 'UnPimping ze Auto' !!! R-gruppe Sleeper's.. I love those original leather seats. Love the smell. Have no intention of ever changing them. There comfortable over bad roads and they look great. Sport seats certainly wouldn't make the car any faster, but the massaged motor does. If I want sport seats I'll jump into one of my cars' that came so equiped.

I've revived this thread in hope of some Ossi Blue photos - preferably where you think the camera has rendered the shade correctly.
As much as I love my car's current colour (Arrow Blue - code L305) which is also the same as Chad Plavan's for reference, I have decided to take the car back to it's factory Ossi Blue. I've discovered some serious rust in the floor pan and decided to address it and some other minor body issues which will likely required the car to receive a full repaint. So I figured that as a matching numbered RHD, the factory colour couldn't hurt either...
I'd also appreciate the correct paint code if anyone has it?

From what I can recall, Chris once said his color was a "home brew" - not a factory Porsche color.
Forcier - You will want to search for photos of Jerry Murray's Ossi Blue fun machine. The car is fairly magnificent in color and execution... :)

Way back in 2002 when I was getting ready to paint the 911, there was a dilemma on the paint name. BOTH Porsche Royal Blue and Arrow Blue have the same paint code (mixing 305 or L305 depending on paint manufacturer). The name just changed at some point. Originally it was a 356 color, it disappeared for a little bit then came back. In the early 80's there were some 928's painted "Royal Blue". Now everything I see is named "Arrow Blue". When I was looking at purchasing a "Paint to Sample" Cayman S- We picked "Royal Blue" in which Porsche changed to "Arrow Blue". (I ended up getting laid off in 2006 and canceled the order :( )
When people take pictures of the car, depending on the camera it usually looks washed out more than it does in person. Flieger's pictures he took are the best example of what the color looks like in person (at least on my monitor :) )
I cant wait till this is painted! It's now sitting in my garage waiting for me to put the torsion bars in, and strip it for paint- Then I can rebuild it and race it. My job just has me busy traveling alot right now- Not to mention me "helping" plan a wedding for June with my Fiance (I'm not dumb...... I started the ST conversion BEFORE we got engaged....haha)

I absolutely love that Oxford-Dalmation-Sea Blue. Its so good it has 3 names. I bought a 73 911 just because it was that color. I think I subconciously mixed that color for my 914-6. It has a purple component that really grabs the eye.

Yes, BMW Laguna Seca Blue is one of my favorites. :) There was a similar color for 993s. Oslo is a little blue-er, more to my taste.:rolleyes:

Ol' BLue ('67 912) was supposed to be painted maroon. My old friend and business partner in the mid '80s, John Robison, now a nationally recognized free-range Aspergian, decided on his own accord that I'd like Dalmation blue better. I was pretty annoyed but I had to admit, he was right.

Here's my old girl on the 40th celebrations in Stuttgart last summer. After 28 years, i have always believed it to be 'Sea Blue', but others on here refer to it as 'Dalmation Blue'.
Are they the same? I thought that Dalmation Blue was darker and lacked the purpleness that the Sea Blue has.

Still trying to pick my favorite non-metallic blue. So far the top two are Oslo and Arrow. Mexico is too light (Arrow is almost too light), Albert too dark. Oslo seems a little gray but I like the turqoise. The Kundensport Royal Blue seems to have a twinge of green in it compared to Chad's Arrow Blue, but they have the same paint code. So what is up? If you order it for a 356 is the formula different? 6603 Gulf is also nice. Would like to see it in the sunlight rather than just the panels in the paint booth. Ossi Blue could be what I'm looking for but every picture I see of it seems to make it look different- many times it looks very gray, other times it looks like Dalmatian, other times it looks like the bright blue I want. I basically want something like non-metallic Subaru blue.
Maybe it is just my mind...

Metallic Blue is still top of the blues for me for the moment.
Max, as you may be aware, I recently changed my car from Arrow back to original Ossi... It was a very difficult decision at the time as I really love Arrow/Royal Blue.
I've really grown fond of Ossi for the reasons that frustrate me trying to take an accurate photo of it - it really does change colour in different light.
Another colour you might like to explore is the era correct, but very rare Ultra Blue... Tony Campbell (Classic) had his 69t restored in this colour (the only one imported to Australia in this colour we think). It is really awesome and is somewhere between Ossi and Albert.

I love several of the various shades of blue used on the early cars. On my 72ST build the car was originally Tangerine which I also think is a great, period color and I'll very likely keep the car that color. But when I see cars like these two, it keeps me up at night a bit. You all recognize these two cars which were both at the Coronado Speed Festival last month. Dalmation Blue and Acid Blue. I love em' both.

Pretty sure Arrow and Acid have the same code (L305). Great colours! Pretty sure this blue is also sometime called "Monarco Blue", but stand to be corrected on that.

Here is my 76. I understand it to be a factory Arrow Blue. AFAIK, the respray is actually a recent OEM blend from a non-german brand I won't besmirch this board with, but that it is a correct shade for Arrow?

Does anyone have a car in the Southern California area that is painted either Ossi Blue or 6603 Gulf Blue? Pictures of these vary so much that I would like to see one in the metal if possible.
Does anyone know what blue was used for the Carrera stripes on the 2.7 RS? Looks like maybe Ossi? By the way, what does Ossi mean? Oslo is in Norway, Gulf is a body of water, See is another body of water, etc. But what is ossi?

Max- I bought sample paint panels of Aetna Blue (a 356 color) and 6603 Gulf Blue. I'll bring them both with me to the Lit weekend in March and can let you take a look at them. For my ST build I'm exploring some non-metallic blues in addition to the original tangerine of the car. I think the Aetna Blue would look fantastic on an early car (especially with ST flares) and the early Gulf is also great. I know that computer displays can drastically alter colours, but that Oslo blue looks significantly different to the spray out card I got from Willhoit for my Oslo blue project. Whereas the Oslo example on page 4 seems to match.

could be adriatic blue L50E....but definite a nice ride. inside and engine pics would be nice to see.
I'm pretty sure it's not Adriatic. Not sure if two stage or glasurit, the actual paint came with the car. The golf blue has an amazing range of hues depending on the sunlight, it goes from light blue to almost dark blue depending on the weather....
Anyone have a picture of an Ultra Blau car? Paint #6827, color #R5013. The car we're taking back to it's original color is a 1969. There is a small strip over the gauges on the dash, but we would like to see a whole car in this color.

I found a couple Ultra Blau pictures.
I think that the first picture there is the ex Fishcop Ossi blue car.
You could be right. Here is the thread. If that's the case I wish I could find a car painted in Ultra Blau. Does anyone have a picture of an Ulta Blue car?

Pretty sure this is Porsche color #227 aka Jade Green. Don't know if I have seen a more beautiful color on an early car. Restoration looked to be very high quality.
