BaT Description:
This 1965 Porsche 911 coupe is finished in black over black leatherette and was completed on October 25, 1965. The car was sold new to a Mr. Wechsler of Monticello, New York and reportedly spent time in Rhode Island before being brought to Canada by the selling dealer in 2016. Power is provided by a numbers-matching 2.0-liter flat-six paired with a Type 902 five-speed manual transaxle, and the vehicle came equipped from the factory with an electric sunroof and a Blaupunkt radio. This early 911 is now being offered for sale with a copy of the Kardex, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, some service records, and Ontario registration.
Schwarz (6609) is the factory color according to the Kardex report, and a single-stage repaint was reportedly performed at some point in the past. Equipment includes gold rear badging, chrome bumperettes, Hella sealed-beam headlight housings, a collapsible antenna, chrome lower rocker trim, and early four-screw horn grilles. Finish flaws are captured up close in the 10-minute walk-around video presented below.
15×6” Fuchs wheels from the 1970s feature colored Porsche crest center caps and wear 205/60 Sumitomo HTR 200 tires. The Karosserie tag located in the driver’s door jamb. Black leatherette seats are joined by salt-and-pepper squareweave carpeting, black rubber floor mats, and wood veneer dash trim. An electric sunroof and a Blaupunkt radio were factory options along with a Webasto gas heater, though the latter has been removed. A wood four-spoke steering wheel fronts green VDO gauges, including a tachometer with a 6,800-rpm redline and a 150-mph speedometer. Just over 18k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, though total mileage is unknown.
The 2.0L flat-six features dual Solex carburetors and was factory-rated for 130 horsepower at 6,100 rpm and 140 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 902/1 five-speed manual transaxle. According to the seller, a 911S engine was previously fitted in the car prior to 2016. Receipts from work performed between 2016 and 2018 are provided in the gallery, along with the results of a compression test. Stamping *902824* matches the number listed on the CoA and Kardex, confirming the engine as original.
Replacement floors have been installed. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists the factory colors and powertrain numbers. A copy of the Kardex is provided.
