BaT Description:
This 1968 Porsche 911L is one of just 449 US-market coupes produced for a single model year. The car was completed in March 1968 finished in Silver Metallic over black leather and optioned with a 100-liter fuel tank, Recaro seats with headrests, front fog lights, and a halogen spotlight. A numbers-matching 2.0L flat-six remains fitted and is paired with the original five-speed manual transaxle, though it does not run. An included Kardex records that the car was purchased new by a Harold Mills of Michigan and originally handled by Jabsen Motors of Hong Kong. The car had accumulated more than 12k miles by late 1968 and was apparently serviced in Sweden before being brought to the US. It sat unused for many years and was acquired by the selling dealer out of a garage in Michigan. This 911L project is now offered with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the Kardex, and a clean Texas title.
The seller reports that the car was repainted at some point in the past, and the driver-side front fender is a fiberglass replacement. Sekurit glass markings are shown in the photo gallery below, along with flaking paint, dings, corrosion, and other exterior blemishes. Hella fog lights are mounted below the front bumper, and another auxiliary light is attached to the driver-side horn grille. 15″ Fuchs wheels are mounted with older 165-width tires, and a full-size spare is contained in the front trunk. 1967 date stampings on all five wheels.
Recaro seats remain fitted and were optioned from the factory with headrests. The rear seats and the carpeting has worn through in the footwells. A December 1967 marking from the back of the door panel can be seen. The seller reports a manually-operated Golde sunroof was added, though its interior trim panel is missing. Vents for an aftermarket air conditioning system are mounted below the dashboard, and a Blaupunkt cassette player has been installed. The dashboard is cracked, and the fuel/oil gauge is taped in place. 4k miles are indicated on the odometer, with true mileage unknown.
The 2.0-liter flat-six features Weber 40 IDA carburetors and is mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. It is not currently running. Stamping *3280588* is shown above and matches the CoA and Kardex, confirming engine originality. Transaxle stamping 3280871 is pictured in the gallery and also matches documentation from Porsche. The Kardex shows the factory options and colors, as well as the production date, handling by Jebsen Motors of Hong Kong, the original owner’s name, and June 1968 servicing by Scania-Vabis of Sweden. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity also lists March 1968 production along with factory colors, options, and serial numbers. Several pictures show the car as it was purchased by the selling dealer in Michigan, where it had reportedly sat for many years.
