Thread: Originality/restoration question

    Originality/restoration question

I have a 72 t, gulf orange, nearly all original, however in the 90,s someone got heavy handed with the black spray paint, especially the wheels, and wheel wells.

Question, what was the original color of the brake rotor backing plate? Were they painted black or should they be the gold plating? I notice the Porsche replacements are black.

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you.

This is an unrestored '73, but same idea. Should help you clean up your car. https://plus.google.com/app/basic/ph...ource=appredir

Very helpful, thank you. In 72' wheel wells and underside painted black? Wurth stone guard type finish?

Also my backing plates have lost most of their yellow zinc, any suggestions?

Also the heater valves are reddish in color any suggestions on spray can similar colors?

    Thank you.

At the risk of stating the obvious,,,,,get them replated. For the heater valves I use red oxide primer with clear over it. Very close to original.
