    Question Service Offered: H1 Restoration

Back in the saddle restoring a limited number of H1 headlamps. Here are some pictures of a restored set and the steps taken to restore them:

    image.jpg

    • Reflectors - stripped, copper plated, nickel plated, polished, layer of vapor deposited aluminum, silica layer - Why aluminum?
    • Housings - media blasted, painted with high temperature paint
    • Lenses - new with correct Bosch lettering (inside of lens)
    • Lenses Gaskets - new
    • Chrome Trim Rings - rechromed originals
    • Adjustment Screws - mounted with nylon lock nuts for easy removal
    • Fender Mounting Screws - new
    • Fender Mounting Gaskets - new
    • Adjustment Instruction Labels - exact reproductions
    • Bulbs - new, 55w/100w
    • Bench Tested

The cost is your core plus $600 per headlamp. I realize that this isn't cheap, but there is substantial cost involved in the replating of the reflectors. When done they are bright and right - bright for driving and right for concours.

I'm getting ready to send out a batch of reflectors for replating so let me know if you're interested in having some redone.

    Thanks,
    John

Thanks Kevin & Ravi. Kind of wandered away from radio repair. Evidently my advanced age limits me me to concentrating on only one thing at a time.

Sent off a set with original lenses to Sweden today that are going to be mounted on a Targa prototype. I'll be sending off a batch of reflectors to the platers soon which I do every couple of months. Good timing if you have a pair you've been thinking about restoring.

    Cheers,
    John

I've just finished the restoration of seven sets of H1's and ready to start on a few more. It seems to have settled down into two cycles a year. Here are some pictures of a recent set:

PM me if you're interested in having a set done over the winter. I'm limiting the next run to five sets.

    Thanks,
    John
