    Start relay

Continuing on my exploration of a 69 Porsche's electrical wiring without a definitive wiring diagram.

I've concluded that the fuel pump runs from the Y connector un-fused from the switched ignition (red wire ) from the main harness. Which is also connected to the Bosche CDI.

What has got me stumped though is the "Start Relay" I have a stray red wire form 87 on the relay (so switched) which is red.

For the life of me I can't work out where it should be terminated......looking back through my old photos from when I removed everything it appears that it was just laying there not connected to anything?

I've fixed all of the PO's adventures into automotive electrical wiring ( including the use of tin foil, and granny knots to join wires).

    HELP!

Looking at my 69 diagram I see a "auxilliairy starting relay switch" but '87' has a grey wire from it. Looking at your pictures I'm not sure what exactly you're pointing too? The 69 has to have the MOST complicated wiring of any Porsche !!

    Thanks for looking Ed.

It's not the Auxillary to the best of my knowledge. It's listed as the start relay (standard) on SL33, and has the yellow wire from the ignition, with two reds, and as you said the grey.

30 which is power to the relay, and 86. SL33 shows it going to the MFI Start Switch, and back to the fuse box.

Problem is in the 69T only has two fuses, not the three, and obviously no MFI Start Switch.

So would it go to the rear window heat fuse, or the Sporto (unused) fuse block?

I'm starting to think about the system, and thinking that it may run to the Sporto fuse block, which I would assume is part of the start system maybe stopping you from starting the car in the wrong gear?

I can't see why it would go to the rear window heat fuse....... But I'm just thinking out aloud.

I wish I could find a diagram of the 69T with the two fuse box.

Tony, the 'start relay I think you're referring to is the relay that energizes the start enrichment solenoid of the MFI pump. I guess yours is a carbed car? I'm looking also at SL33 which is for 69 E and S. I don't have one for 69 t's. Not even sure if one exists?

Thanks Ed. More research, who knows what the PO did, or maybe it's like the Sporto functions still in the harness but not utilized?
