    Problems with Pacific Fuel Injection??

I sent them a good working 69S pump to change the space cam and check overall operation. That was 9 months ago. They said 2 months. I have called every few months to check and no pump or revised date. I'm getting unhappy. Any other recent experiences? Maybe they will see this and get in gear.

Gus has a LONG backlog. It only takes him a day to do a pump. . . you just have to get it to be your day. The global explosion in interest in MFI cars has probably made that longer. All I can counsel is polite patience and phone calls.

Mine was returned in less than a week. It's in great shape.

I know shops that send him a half dozen pumps at one time.

I'm not sure where the space cam fits in your pump? :-)

I think you have been quite patient. However, not as patient as me. I have been waiting three years and counting for some wheels to be refurbished so perhaps it's a sign of the increasing workload on fewer and fewer specialists in the field. The other thing is that you have to rely on the best staying the best so I'm sure these shops want to stick to their excellent reputation by turning out top quality work. It only take one bad job to get a bad name. Inevitably this means longer lead times as they maintain their standards.

What would really help is better communication. It only takes a regular updated email to keep the customer satisfied and feel connected (even if it's just to say 'haven't got to your job yet, estimated two months). That's what I've found hard to accept.

Gus does all my MFI pumps some take a few weeks others take considerably longer, he built me a new RSR pump from spare parts that took several years. You will never get a bad job from him or any excuses on workmanship, he is a one man shop. Be patient and hang in there, you won't be disappointed.

Diesel World in Santa Ana , Ca . Their turn-around is measured in weeks , not months . They do not do the cosmetic concourse restorations , but they know these pumps , they used to do all of Andial's pump work .

Sounds like a Ponzi scheme...where I need some else's pump to finish your pump.

    It's not a Ponzi scheme...

PFI is not a fast place. Yes, the backlog is huge, but it was slow before.

The motivation is not money; there is always more work to be done than there is time. The motivation has to be nothing more than customer satisfaction--so politely communicate your growing dissatisfaction.

It's unfortunate, but the best thing I can recommend is that you be absolutely insistent on your need for the part and persistent with your calls. "The squeaky wheel gets greased."

Now, you should recognize that in the restoration world, Gus is doing alright. Gus has always picked up the phone when I have called during business hours, and I think he is trustworthy, competent and honest. Most of the resto shops and service guys that are worth a damn are now in their 60s, at a minimum, and I can see that they might be tired. That doesn't excuse it, but it makes it easier to swallow.

Now, if I had a dollar for every minute chasing down vendors that don't return my phone calls, or my e-mails, I'd be a rich man. God damn, it is annoying when someone doesn't at least communicate the status of your work order.
