And if you're little shy, I'll gladly drive it to the Saturday coffee meet for you.

Looks like a good price, but don't forget we're talking Canadian dollars here...

Congratulations with the purchase! Great story.

What does karma say about that!!
CAN'T WIN THEM ALL I GUESS...

20K WAS THE ASKING PRICE SOLD FOR OVER THE ASKING.
"Well I was fourtante enough to stumble upon 9111300492 in a downtown Toronto underground where it had been collecting dust
for many years! I contacted the owner which was not an easy task and bought the car on the spot. Turns out the car has been sitting
in this location under a cover for a couple years. It was tucked away and not easy to locate and for the most part looked unassuming under a
    old ratty car cover."

Help me out here: The original story seems to communicate discovered lost treasure and you had to "find" the owner. Plumber indicates that the car was advertised(?) and you wrestled the car away even though he was first caller who was willing to pay her asking price.

We've all been in Plumber's shoes which if really happened is infuriating to say the least.

    What's the real story here?

I can help you out Frank

I stumbled upon a vague ad for Porsche Race car no mention of VIN etc. Then I found the car but no owner, just a personal assistant that knew nothing about the car etc etc.
As for Plumber we spoke and all is good. He had not committed to buying the car as far as I know. He only set up a time to see the car later that night. The assistant said to me that other people are interested/want to see the car can we talk tomorrow (I am summarizing here) I said how about I offer X amount and I take it now. This is when the owner needed to be contacted to finalize the deal. I did not steal the car from anyone just did not want to wait and have others see it.

After I made the deal and I will admit I let an auction mentality take over. I thought what the hell am I going to do with it. Part of me wants to just race it as is. Another part of me thought this motor and brake set up would be perfect for my IROC race car. Someone will want the shell, I did not have time to think it over just pulled the trigger. Glad I did and the more I look at the car the more I want to keep it and race it as is. Hard choice as one should go but I have put a lot of time into the IROC.

Somewhat correct. I saw the same ad on Kijiji contacted the lady and asked for the serial number as well. The ad said 1970 race car for sale the vin told me it was a 1971 S. The lady said she would be available on the weekend. I told her I wanted to buy the car and would come downtown that afternoon. I told her I wanted to be the first to look at the car and said she would be available after her class at 7:30. I made arrangements to pick up my wife and have dinner downtown as we had to go to the airport to pick up her mum. We were ready to go to meet the lady for 7:30 and I called and she said she sold the car. I asked if I was the first to call with the first look and she confirmed, but said another buyer had offered more money. I asked how much she said a lot. I said my definition of a lot and hers might be different. I said a lot might be 1k, 2k, 5k or 10K and she said I was making her feel bad. I said she should return the deposit and I should have first refusal but said she couldn't do that. The lady also said there was another gentleman there as the same time and she should have given him the opportunity to bid as well. I called her back to express my disappointment and she again apologized and said she had made a mistake and should have do it differently.
I can't really blame the lady as she didn't really know anything about cars. I could tell when she read the engine specs over the phone, the engine alone is worth the price of admission.
So now you have both sides of the story.
John had said he bought the car at 4:30, i sent the first email at 2:43pm, talked to her at 4:07pm said I would meet her after her class.
    Just a little disappointed.

Funny I told her the samething I wanted to be first to see it etc.... she also told me around 7:30 should work. I thought about it for two minutes 7:30 was too much time. Called her back said I was in the area can I see it ASAP. She said sure and the rest is history. I can't blame her as with many ads people say they will buy it I want it and are never heard from again. Just so happened you were the real deal and ready to buy but she couldn't know that.

LIke I said in my PM it's all good, these things happen life's too short to ruin your health worrying about it.
Enjoy the car, wins few races and then give it to your son's to enjoy.
