I had a great time--got to be one of the judges on the "unrestored" category. I was "Mr. Evil with the Paint Meter"--I'm picky--but that tool made my job extra fun. I saw a few of you guys out there--nice chatting with you!

Multi-generations of 911s, a nice RS America and an interesting color (light olive, champaign metallic?) on a Cayman.

A guy from Ohio "got to be" one of the judges at Dana Point and brings a paint meter!!??

Tools to access a judged area is specifically forbidden in the PCRs.

Never at a Parade, Pebble Beach, Carmel or an SCCA sanctioned concours.

Is anyone else out there disgusted by this?.........REALLY!

A paint meter is what you use when buying a car,,,,not judging one. You only get to use your eyes and expertise!

Wow, well, no I didn't bring the meter. I was asked to use it by the head judge, who handed it to me. We spotted the issues on the cars we were judging and the meter confirmed. The class was "Unrestored" and we were looking for the best preserved/most original car within the class.

SCCA concours? Been an SCCA member 25 years and wrote about their events as an automotive journalist for 15 of those seasons--- never knew they had concours.

Excuse me. I watched a paint meter being used by a judge in Monterey this year. Of course, it takes a very trained eye to tell if a car has original paint.

Once again I didn't get a chance to explore the show to the extent that I have in the past...too many human distractions with all the great people that come together.

I did get to breeze through and there were a few gems. I was especially impressed by the Convertible D turnout this year.

Since my 911 is currently in motor/trans Limbo I drove down in my dad's '73 hot rod which was pretty cool because I haven't used that car on a road trip in a few years. It makes me glad I'm bringing it to Monterey for the Werks Reunion; that'll be a nice trip up the 1.

My favorite 356 this year was probably the Carrera GT Ice Racer because of the sheer originality of the car, but there were a couple really nice Speedster Ds that I liked as well. Favorite 911 was the one I brought ... it's hard to beat a hot rod that was built over 25 years ago and has seen almost 200,000mi.
