Thread: Odd engine case.

    Odd engine case.

This one has me stumped and I would like to call on the collective wisdom of the board. The backstory for the car that this motor is in goes something like this: Euro delivery 73 coupe, nice sporty options. As far as I can tell, in the states since the late 70s early 80s. Off the road since 1990 with an owner who is very much out of the early 911 loop.

The serial number decodes to a factory rebuilt 2.7 RS motor from 74, the model number is 911/52 and not the 911/83 that I would expect. The serial number has the correct factory font and looks kosher to my eyes as does the rest of the motor. The story that went with the car was the motor was a factory rebuild done under warranty in 74 and dealer installed. Allegedly, the owner wanted a bit more power. The way the rest of the car is optioned, this seems plausible but I have no documentation to confirm and the cardex is void of any reference. Thoughts?

Post the casting numbers/part numbers from the stacks and the MFI pump please - that will give a lead to how 'factory' any conversion may have been.

Could be, but I don't think so. I've zoomed in super closely and it doesn't look like a lightly struck 8...it looks like a wrong font 3 to me.

Definitely KD 6641314, but it doesn't matter as none of fonts are consistent with Factory stamped serial numbers. The only original marking is the remnants of a 'star' to the far right (or beneath as it sits in the car) of the number sequence. All this probably means is the person who ground off the original serial numbers didn't completely grind off the original star and then stamped the engine serial number for a '74 Carrera 2.7.

This is NOT an original Factory RS motor. Based on the description it was a 2.4L E engine originally.
