Bone stock, yes. Slightly modified, no.

I have an '87 turbo with typical 911/930 mods and a short geared 930 trans. The gearing transformed the car. It's an absolute blast to drive on the country roads and mountains of Virginia! Very little turbo lag. These days the car feels like a big bore SC when off boost, and a rocket on boost.

You're absolutely right. I was referring to stock configured cars.

That 87 looks like fun ... gears make ALL the difference.

Hey Marco, go for a ride in Stamper's 78 930 (or is it a 79?). Now it has been "rubbed on" significantly by his specialist and that car seems incredibly drivable even with its original 4 speed. Actually, I rather liked the 4 speed. Hell, you could drive it all day long on those WV roads in just 2nd gear. Damn thing flies and in great comfort.

I was talking about stock cars ... apples for apples.

And, fwiw, 4-speed 930 boxes are fine if you leave them in 2nd gear around town ... which you seem to have figured out.

FWIW, the 930 was homologated with a 4 speed. 4 speed turbos have won Sebring, Daytona and Lemans. Good enough for Stommelen, Haywood, etc. Good enough for this Schmuck..me!

It's a shame they did not use the correct brown leather to recover seats in beige car, the brown is really beautiful.

Looks like a great buy. Many collectors are looking for one now that prices are not (everywhere) stratospheric yet. Next year Pebble Beach theme is 40 years turbo. Expect some stratospheric prices there...
