Thread: SWB quarterpanel / flare options?

    SWB quarterpanel / flare options?

We've got a 67 that has fiberglass SC flares on it now. All the suspension is stock 67 (short wheelbase). I'd like to return it to the original narrow flares, preferably in steel. Planning on building it into a 911R inspired hot rod. Other than the full metal quarterpanels that cost over $2k each, and the EB motorsport fiberglass R panels, is anything available for SWB cars? Thanks.

If you're going to copy an 'R' why not do the 'R' fiberglass panels and get the correct 'R' flare in the process?

Thanks for the info. I'll probably go with the eb panels if I don't find anything else, just seeing what's out there that I'm not aware of. Those steel flares look nice but I believe too much metal has been removed from the car for me to use them without a bunch of additional patch work (torsion bar hole etc). I'm not totally against fiberglass. The main reason I'd prefer steel is the perceptions people have about fg flares bonded to steel. I've never had a problem with it but I won't own the car forever and don't want it to impact my ability to sell when the time comes. Several of the other panels will be fiberglass though...

You say you have a '67 and turning it into an R-inspired hot rod. You'll be doing exactly that.

It currently has a short hood, impact bumpers and a 3.0. Not enough of the original car left to justify a restoration. So I think I'll be enhancing the value unless SC replicas are suddenly in demand...

I am going down the same route. My car is a 65 and has 70 lwb flares on it. Not welded but bonded with fibreglass.
Yes steel to steel bonded with fibreglass. I have purchased some original quarter panels as the only way I can see as a good fix. PM me if you want any info.
Do what you want with your car. Lots of people like original but I prefer something a little different and hot rodded cars are harder to sell but you worry about that later.
What plans have you got in mind for your car?

I'm still in the parts collecting and planning phase. With the current state of the car doing a resto would be a losing proposition, hot rods are more fun anyway.
