    What color is my car?

The A-pillar tag on my 69 reads 62162-L which I believe is Velvet Green, a 66-67 color according March 2013 issue of Esses.

I just got the Kardex and it says I have 6861 Agave Green. Sticker just says Special Paint.

Pic of headlight bucket. Also have underside of the decklid and a lot of rear seat paint.

Any thoughts on the door tag not matching the Kardex? VIN and engine # match.

That appears to be velvet green the VW bus color 64(?) to 67 solid color on the commercials ie. kombi, single and doubles and two tone on the standards and deluxes with pearl white( usually) on top. S

    Shaun,
    This is interesting.
6861 is Beige Metallic according to this thread (another 69 car):

I am wondering if 6861 designated a special order metallic, but not the color itself...

Can you post a picture of your paint tag?

PS - is your light bucket the only known sample of velvet green?

Thank you all Gentlemen, very interesting stuff!

Peter, the rear underside decklid still has some of the green and there's a lot of paint on the back seat/shelf pan. Car was painted black at some point and the body was taken down to bare metal. I have enough of the green to do a color match I think.

Bryce, I'll see if I can get a pic this weekend on the tag. Thought I had one but only found this.

    Thank you Chuck!

Code 6861 is indeed a general code for special colors; I have several examples in my database now. It essentially preceded the 99 or 999 in the later code series to indicate a special color.
What your Kardex does is tie 62162-L code on the paint badge to a color descriptor agavengrün which translates to agave; I suppose we could also call this 'velvet green'.

"9369 Sond. Lak" is a direct reference to special paint.

This thread mentions the same 9369 Sond. Lak

Shaun sand the flat black off the dash and reveal the green underneath then clear coat and image for the color
