    Advice needed

    Hi all

3 months ago I puchased parts of a member who has a regularly added to resto thread here on the board. About a month after I paid for the goods he came back to me and asked for clarification on my address after i contacted him asking where the goods were. After providing this to him its been another 2 months but still nothing has turned up. We are at opposite ends of the world but im my experience they should be here by now.

I had requested tracking details many times over the last month and have finally been provided these today but after checking the numbers the shipment comes back as there is no information on it - aka it doesnt exist.

The seller seems like a very nice guy and ive have been told by other members that they have received parts from him with no issues but right now im out of pocket with no parts to show for it... and its been 3 months.

So im kind of asking for advice but also just kind of venting... its a lot of money and im feeling pretty helpless at the bottom of the world!

Ill wait until he replies to my questions of why the track numbers show no such parcel but he is outside the US. I dont want to cause trouble but the purchase was a lot of money for me!

If you sent money and have not received your parts in a reasonable amount of time, (more than a week or two) then you need to cause trouble. It is situations like this that create a distrust about buying and selling on this site. I for one offer lots of parts and rebuild services and do not want people hesitating sending funds. I try to make sure I get stuff shipped as quick as I can so as not to cause suspicion. There seems to be a huge amount of trust and loyalty here and we do not need it tarnished.

You did not mention which carrier was used, however if your parts were shipped by the
US Postal Service, their tracking system is a joke.

When I ship international by them and get a tracking number, I check a few days later
and it still comes up as "tracking number not found".
The tracking number usually shows up in the system once the package has arrived
in the destination country or when it is actually delivered.

As you are probably aware the only alternatives are UPS, FedEx and DHL which are
4x the cost, however tracking is spot on.

Being in NZ, it is going to take a while form the USA.
    Fingers crossed for you.

If it was just tracking number errors, time for delivery, or lack of responsiveness alone, I would be patient - it sounds like it's all three in concert - the impact to you sounds material - the impact to trust in this community could be substantial - I would say put it out in the open and seek help from others.

Having shipped some stuff oveseas I cannot confirm dhl tracking as being accurate (at least as soon as it's abroad).
As soon as it has entered US territory tracking is a joke, just last week tracking status was "waiting for pickup at post office", but it was already delivered for 5 days or so.
Shipping to the US with dhl standard aleady twice took 9 weeks until delivery.
If you go for service premium it makes it faster but it's still not in the 1 week mentioned above.
With shipping to NZ or AUS I haven't much experience so I can't comment on that.

I hope you receive the stuff and get your trust in the community back.
    Cheers

Ok so an update on the missing parts....

Its now been 4 months since I paid for them and still nothing. These are being shipped from Spain to New Zealand. Seller has stated that I didnt give him a post code for my address in New Zealand but we dont need to use them for freight here. I did end up giving him one after he said he needed it and he said he had sent the goods. After 2 months of waiting and numerous emails asking for tracking details I finally was sent some details that told me nothing, in fact, they said there was no such parcel.

I have gone back to him asking if the was a return address on the parcel which im sure there always is for overseas deliveries.

I am really disappointed by this transaction and am out of pocket $700 at this point but he seems unwilling to talk about even a part refund. I have emailed him this morning saying I would like to move on and can he please refund me half of the payment - $350. We will both be out of pocket but seems fair to me.

What do people think? Is this the best way to go?

    Cheers
