Thanks, guys...it has been fun imagining how a mid 70s Turbo should look in my minds eye. I am no Magnus Walker, but I would gladly take this car to the twisty back roads with the 3.0L CIS against a Magnus 3.0 Turbo any day...as those twisty turns are not kind to early Turbos.

I know, I know...just haven't replaced them yet. The good news is that the original 'shag' carpet beneath those ugly mats has been protected and is in excellent condition...like the rest of the interior. I guess what is needed is a pair of Coco mats....right?

You can't get carpet with that correct "pile" any longer so take care of it! I agree it's tough to keep any early turbo on-boost with stock set up and gearing but the turbo's repond very well to some bolt on mods. The the wide gear ratios of the 4 speed and tall gearing can be fixxed. I had a 79 with a g50 tranny and it was amazing

    Cheap RS Floor Mats....

"I guess what is needed is a pair of Coco mats....right? "...or just regular Black Lloyds (plain with no writing!)or like RS-style black vinyl/rubber with same surface as you have below the pedals now(sewn to the factory mat)....Home Depot sell them for "area rug"(runner) protection for about $1.00/foot...and you'll cut to size....besides it doesn't "break the bank"...and if Canepa can use it...so can we!.../ Lars...

P.S...My sample-pic is from a piece that was "crumbled-up" in my garage...

    Lars:

I appreciate you digging out your old 'crumpled' Home Depot rubber mat...I bought some of this years ago and used it in several cars. I also have lots of black floor mats collected over 30 years, but this car needs something classic...like coco or sisal mats...don't you think? (Just the 2 piece version) I wonder what MW would use....??

Food for thought for those out there wanting to have fun with both a short and long hood...you could buy a REAL early Turbo (attachment) for $110-125k OR you could look for a 74-77 911, make it a wide body (or better yet, find one already done), drop a 3.0L engine in, put an early turbo tail on, narrow bumperettes, maybe even tartan sport seats...and still have enough left over to buy a pretty nice 67-73 long hood to make into an R Gruppe hot rod or just offer an alternative drive when you want to go to the twisties with some buddies.

On those twisty back roads, the 3.0 NA will outperform the 3.0 Turbo, unless as Phil Points out, you modify it with a 5 speed gear box, and probably a different turbo charger, and fuel enrichment, etc. But then you drop the value of that 'collectible' early turbo...

OK, Lars...I found some pretty decent floor mats in my stash, and they seem to match nicely...so the cocos will have to wait for awhile. Another feature that some have mentioned to me are the 84+ fogs which actually look much better than the factory 'hangin out front' versions used from 74-83. The 'integrated fogs' have grown on me, but I have contemplated removing them and putting black screens over the cutouts....we'll see.
