Ughh.. Here's a shot from the first fill-up. $115.27 euros or $146.21. Insanity................Not bad considering 72`s have "two" gas tanks!

    great adventure... keep enjoying

about the cost of fuel fill ups, it's all relative... from a different perspective... be glad that the fuel is not filling a boat or a plane, where fills can be measured by the 1000s of gallons, regardless what part of the world fuel is being purchased :=)

If we had pump attendants like the one in your picture, we'd gladly pay 10 dollars a gallon too.
What a great honeymoon trip. You and Clooney seem to have picked the same weekend.

LiveFromNY, Zeniths you are correct. That was a typo on my part. The car is looking great. Enjoy!

I wonder if the price of Italian-based cars has gone up as a result of this thread …. people getting ideas of 'a little trip' …. !!

Time for a quick update before a late dinner.

We've made it to our first stop, Positano, which is nothing short of spectacular. This was the view from the balcony of our hotel suite this afternoon.

So, not bad. Not bad at all.

The weather has been spectacular. Nothing but clear skies and temps in the mid-70's. Just couldn't ask for more.

We started the journey on Monday before lunch leaving our villa in San Giustino Valdarno and heading to Florence about 80km away. After a quick stop there we pointed the car to Positano and started eating up some miles (or kilometers, I should say). We weren't in any hurry and we covered the 540km in about 6 hours with a couple stops for gas and a bite to eat. The car ran like a champ. The 620km is the most of I've driven one of these cars in a single day and I was smiling ear-to-ear every minute of the journey. Great fun.

Once we were off the highways I got my first taste of the roads that the Amalfi coast is known for. Narrow just doesn't begin to describe it. On our way into Positano on Via Pasitea we were surrounded by little cafes on either side of the road for much of the drive and, if I'd wanted to, I could have reached my hand through the window and taken a piece of bread off someone's plate.

Fortunately, we were close to our hotel by then so I didn't have to resort to stealing food.

We've become minor celebrities at the hotel thanks to the Porsche. One of the things that has really struck me on our travels so far has been the lack of great old cars I'm so used to seeing on American roads. They're just non-existent. Needless to say, the 911 creates a stir everywhere we go.

After a day relaxing at the hotel, I was itching to get back on the road. The route I planned took us to Praiano, Amalfi, and Ravello before looping back around to Positano. Only about 75km in distance but a good couple hours driving on some of the most beautiful (and terrifying) roads I've ever driven. Just an unreal experience.
