John, not to ruin your day, but Dieter Landenberger from the archives and his team were after the '64 car and got the '67 car as a present just because the owner needed to clear the 'barn'.

BTW: Porsches estimates another 1500 hours of labour will go into the '64 car. It will be restored by the museum. The price Porsche paid was established by two independent experts.

Here's a better picture of the dashboard number. Also note the extra cut on the right side of the ash tray. This was a 1964 feature. Later style dash has less wood pieces.

Yes, matching engine, it has been in storage since the seventies, that's why it still looks so good ;-). Also double Pierburg and Solexes etc still there.

So why keep the '67 (which is a '68L right?) in that condition? Is there something significant about this car?

Glad they've got a '64, they keep on rolling out 302503 the Factory's slate grey with red car for their early car related publicity.

Does anyone know the '64's original colour combination; seems to have black pepita seats- what's the paint colour code?

In a museum full of shiny cars, that'll be a drawcard......

It seems to be signal red. You can see the traces of red underneath the black next to the dash serial number.

Any pictures of the L side? It seems to be missing some sheet metal (you can see daylight through the partition wall) and even repairs (already in the 70s ) due to the rust monster.

It will be interesting to follow the 64 restoration and see how the factory handles it. With all the information available in the last few years, will they manage not to over restore it and make it just right?

The barn find seems to be a 68L and I actually like the idea of exhibiting it as is. It seems that the Museum is going in the right direction and getting closer to the mentality of 911 collectors.
