Thread: GT3 - All Variants

  1. #121

    Maintenance

Owners manual calls for new spark plugs every 24,000 mi. My GT3 just turned over 28,000. Rather than drive to the dealer in Denver, and pay full retail for parts/labor, I opted for a Saturday morning DIM gig. For example Bosch Y5DDC plugs are $63 a set in the Bosch box, $200 a set in the Porsche box, so I figured labor savings was in order as well.

Pretty easy job. Remove rear wheels, 2 heat shield bolts, 2 bolts for each of the coil packs, then the plugs. Between the beers and BS it was probably a 45-60 minute job.
One of the easiest things Ive tackled on a 911. Who says the new 911's are complicated ?

Awesome Chris! Im told working on the GT3's can be fairly straight forward. They were designed to be tracked and therefore some of the wear and adjustment parts were designed to be more accessible at the track. I am in the garage with mine now getting to know it better. These are incredible machines!

Don't forget to reset the service interval reminder using the PIWIS.

Also, I need a good apprentice; you're welcome to apply.

    A few recent pics:

My car came with "sound package plus" which is top of the line audio for Porsche back in 2008. A joke on a $120K msrp car, lousy sound and no mp3/ipod connections. I realize some could care less about tunes in the car, but for me it's a necessity, especially driving 900 miles to the coast. Found a nice Pioneer with a factory trim bezel and up-loaded Porsche graphics for that stock appearance. Huge improvement for when I don't want to listen to the Sharkwerks.

A border shot, Ouray, CO, the Mohave from last weekend and some desert trax. Cheers...

All you ever needed in a radio for a Porsche. It works but I never use it.

Even the worst radio works at a stop light. But once the light turns green who cares about the radio?!?!??!
