    '65 market waning?

Things seem to be very quiet.

Thinking of selling a signal red no rust matching numbers early June resto project as is but feeling like now is not the time?

Frank, I don't think the market is waning. A friend just bought a '66 for huge money. Nice car? YES! Worth what he paid? Only in today's frenzied market. There might be 'between-auction' lull right now if anything. That is what I've noticed recently - buyers are waiting for auctions, and/or for auction results. I have found lots of action right after the major auctions, for a variety of reasons. And as you know: Good cars sell, regardless.

Frank just wait until the Auctions are in town in January. $ to Euro isn't great at the moment, but there will be plenty of buyers in the Scottsdale area around that time.

The Early 911 market is a bit "over-blown" , just as the 930 market is. The Ess market seems to be strong and the SWB 912 is on fire. There appears to some movement is the 914 market also. Problem with the early 911 market is exactly the same with the RS market and NOW Ess market. It really makes NO SENSE to drive a car worth that much, regardless of coverage...."what happens if you get rear ended by someone texting" ?.......you 're completely fu**ed. The coverage isn't going to help unless you fight the "diminished value" fight, which is ALL uphill.
Moral of the story : Go to auction and hope WW3 doesn't happen in the Middle East !!!

I think everyone is resting after Monterey. Or, waiting for the Scottsdale circus. There's still a lot of money in the market.

The auctions seem to driving everything. I'm betting there are a lot of back room deals taking place as well. If you have an early S that's close to perfect there is no way you should be paying a Sellers Fee.

Gooding still appears to the place for really serious cars. Mecum is really pushing B-J right now for volume. I think that any number of the Ferrari guys are getting guaranteed prices if they place their car in the auction. Guaranteed $ and no Sellers Fee. Life is good.

Hey Frank, why don't you try something new and sell it as a 66? With all these wannabe 1965s (i.e. because I found a vague date stamp on the left passenger seat hinge with 12.65 so the car must be a 65) popping up everywhere, there will not be a 66 out there anymore!

p.s. plenty of people still driving their 400k+ speedsters to events, why is a 400k 911 any different?

Interesting observation Jules; why DO some guys whine about "driving" their $100, $200 or $300k 911's?

Could it be that 356 owners understand that they OWN their cars rather than their cars OWNING them? Maybe it's the demographic or age difference? Maybe just a philosophical difference between the two groups in how they view life and material "things"? Maybe the 911 owners who complain can't really afford the car and would be better served to sell?

If the bloody thing is insured why not flog it and park it any way you like?

Good lord, don't make it so complicated. It has nothing to do with car model. It's the owner. $100 says there are at least as many 356s trailered to events as early 911s.

    Absolutely right Bill.

So here's the question: What's the difference between a guy who's "scared" to drive and flog his car and the guy who isn't?

Racers muse at this stuff; every time I race I am risking 100-150k being flushed down the toilet if the thing gets balled up.

Oh come on Frank you don't drive your cars in the Snow in the Valley of The Sun now do you?

(I do confess that this trip was the maiden voyage of '065. . . BEFORE all the rust got cut out )
