    Warning: Lumley insurance

Not wanting to go into any details or bore anyone … but:
    - learning the hard way
    - always keep your own insurance company informed about your car
    - you can never be "too careful" and can never keep the insurer "too informed"

    My story
    - 6 months after a "top Sydney Porsche specialist no-expense spared' rebuild with a complete 'ok' warranty check, someone drives into the back of me.
    - Even when it's agreed that it's a "not your fault" claim, and the insurer immediately agrees that you're not at fault, as does the witness
    - the insurer may (and in my case, is) refusing to agree that insurance should fix an accident-caused oil leak

    My advice
    - on a regular basis (quarterly minimum)
    - a quick email to your insurance company
    - with photos
    - showing … all is good …. car is in the condition you told them about ….e.g. no leaks ….
    - also get your garage to confirm in writing at each service …. no leaks ….. and take photos … and send these regularly to the insurer

This insurer (who insures one of my cars) is being difficult
Even though they knew all about the rebuild, knows … and spoke to the specialist who performed the rebuild (with my permission) when i raised the value of the car after the rebuild (and before the accident) … and now … trying to say it's a warranty issue … which it 100% clearly is NOT

So … moral … just keep the insurers informed ….

I understand you're unhappy with your provider but perhaps you can enlighten us as to what's actually leaking? Pics would be great as well.

I loath some of the antics insurance companies pull but you must also appreciate the vast amounts of fraud they face on a regular basis. I've seen some vehicle owners try some whoppers.

BTW: When you post your displeasure publicly and list the actual name of an entity (like an ins co) you best be prepared to go into "details".

Separating coincidence from co-incident is always a struggle.

Here's the problem and I'm sure the basis for their decision (based on professional counsel): The cyl head is held securely to the case assembly with its own fasteners. The cam tower then holds everything in place with separate fasteners. The chances of the crash being the cause of the leak is very slight. It is not out of the question that the leak may have appeared the next day, accident or not. (Let me guess: Your mechanic says this would be virtually impossible.) If I were your mechanic my advice would be to disassemble that side of the motor and discover the exact cause of the failure. (You're going to have to disassemble eventually anyway.) If it's a crack that can be attributed to the hit, you're in like Flynn.

If I were the "hired gun" in this case, right now the ins co has the advantage as all evidence would lead me to conclude that it's pure coincidence.
BTW: My shop would charge under $2500 U.S. for this repair. I can't imagine that this is worth a legal battle over.

(After reviewing pics I think you have a very tall mountain to climb!)

    Good luck.

Yep, Fischcop is right - I've had to deal with them before and they are, only in my opinion mind, the used car salesmen of insurance so to speak - without boring everyone they "lost" the recording (that they tell you they do) of the phone conversation that would have proved my point , and part of a claim to them.

    thanks John
    Will advise during the process
We're currently into complaints, shortly to move to dispute.
    Following that, ombudsman
    Following that, court
Am remaining cheerful, despite provocation … !!!
