    72-73 transition build dates question.

Was Porsche still building a few 1972 model years cars after they started production of 1973 model year?

Just looking at a couple 911t's on ebay the 1972 car shows build date 7/72 while the 1973 car shows 6/72.
See the door jam VIN decals below:

Model years MY usually started after the factory summer holidays in early August lasting two weeks, ie July "7" or June "6" built date is still within the old/previous model year.

However, several cars of the upcoming model year were known built in the previous model year, like a RoW May 1971 built 2.4l model (ex Siffert) or May 72 built 2.7l (RS) model sold by Bonhams and a few others. Those were usually prototypes or factory cars.

Does the chassis VIN match the sticker? I have a hard time believing that any of the prototypes were made to conform to US standards.

Yellow car emissions sticker is 8/72 not 6/72 and is one of the first 300 for '73 model year, so makes sense to me.

Ah, 8/72 does make sense, my eye saw a 6/72. Thank you for correcting that.
I was curious how the 300th one could have been built in June. I have the 23rd 911S coupe built for MY73 built 8/72.

My car has door sticker showing 07/72, is number 21 of the model year & was US delivered. Not sure what constitutes a prototype but a very early build before the summer holidays & delivered to US standards.

Our posts coincided! How funny that the 21st & 23rd 911s coupes in MY73 have different build dates on door sticker. Mine was silver (now black) without sunroof.

My car was originally silver as well. So that makes #21, 22 and 23 all silver cars.
The door sticker on my car is missing, most likely removed during the paint job 20+ years ago so I don't have the actual build date (not on my COA). Now that I see that 911S #20 and your car #21 both have 7/72 printed on the original door sticker I will assume my car must also be a 7/72. European collectables had 9113300021 a few years ago but there are no pictures of the door jamb sticker.

Would this build date of 7/72 imply the factory started production of the 73 911S before the summer holiday?
