Thread: 72-73 transition build dates question.

[QUOTE=srogebry;767375]My car was originally silver as well. So that makes #21, 22 and 23 all silver cars.
The door sticker on my car is missing, most likely removed during the paint job 20+ years ago so I don't have the actual build date (not on my COA). Now that I see that 911S #20 and your car #21 both have 7/72 printed on the original door sticker I will assume my car must also be a 7/72. European collectables had 9113300021 a few years ago but there are no pictures of the door jamb sticker.

Please can you validate whether European Collactables had 9113300021 as that is my car. I bought it from Car Planet SF & have paperwork showing it came directly to Car Planet from the Estate of continuous owner from 1974. Accordingly I would be very surprised if ever for sale via European Collectables. Appreciate any information to confirm / correct. Many thanks. Anthony

Checked historical inventory on European Collectables & my car isn't shown.

Ant22, my mistake they had 9113300022, not your car 21
No build date door decal shown but says 8/1/72 on the COA.

Also, I checked with TB33, the past owner of 9113300030 to see if he had any build date info.
Unfortunately he did not have any information and sold the car a few years ago.

Thank you for clarifying. My COA also said August build despite door decal saying 7/72. I'm guessing the COA is making an assumption rather than reflecting accurate records, why would a period import related 'document' say July if August was accurate? Males no sense to get it wrong in 1972.

Interesting to compare details of engine & transmission number of COE for 9113300022 & my car 9113300021, the car 22 has lower engine & transmission numbers than car 21.
Also interesting to note that both cars originally had black rather than black & chrome rear bumper / fender guards. I have swapped my original ones for chrome ones but retain originals. I don't have the front guards ... Which are not pretty anyway!

They were using up the old chrome guards painted black. The large rubber ones weren't required in U.S. until after Jan. 73 production.

Correct. I think until Jan 73 both chrome and black (painted) guards were available on 73 models. I recall having a document about that, also Brett Johnson states it in his book.

I've been trying to find the build date of my 72T targa 9113110031. The clock build date is 7/72 leading to think that 8/72 or 9/72 is correct. After reading this thread I'm leaning towards 8/72 but I doubt (based on my original clock) that it was built in 7/72. Were all the models built in order?

    Thanks Jerry Landes
