Bryce, noted. I will try if I have time. I used to do it years ago w colour charts.

As for now, these is what US dealers got in their Training manuals for 2.4l models.
1972 "Selling the Porsche", Dealer Training manual, US Market.
"Aperearance group" was first used as a term in 1970 but "Comfort group" was still used too...and meant the same package, even options changed within the MY years.
As one can see, the option package for 1972 was still valid in 1973 but some changes w T and E models added (see further below)

1973 Amendement, "Selling the Porsche", Dealer Training market, US Market.

1973 (September 1972) Porsche Sales Training Bulletin, "1973 Model Changes".

In any case and even the car came like that, there was in my knowledge no option ever to "downgrade" to a silver PORSCHE for a S model.
Maybe a Dealer would do it for a client if he wished to downgrade for 2.0/2.2T style Silver instead of black 73S style, even factory standard for 2.0/2.2S was always Gold on S models...

BTW, what do you mean with (Chrome ?) wheel arch trim..never saw any on a 2.4l model either.
Do you have it on the Kardex or COA, what option would be noted for wheel arch trim on a 73S.
Wheel arch trim was definitely available in 72 and 73.

    Regards

    Jim

Jim, you 're actually right, sorry, I stand corrected.

    Wheel arch trim:
Wheel arch trim was available and Option code 426.
However, for T and E one was able to order it only in combination with option 470 (Comfort Group).

    Silver/Gold Lettering:
I see no option code to order Silver or Gold letters instead of black ones.
    However:
Option 496 was "deleting PORSCHE" lettering on rear lid".
Option 498 was "rear lid without Model designation".

Source: RoW Accessories Prices "Zubehörpreisliste", Sept 1, 1971.
This item list all options from No.089 up to No.976 (about 120 Options in Total).

I guess the mystery remains unsolved regarding lettering. There are too many examples of original examples of unaltered '72's and '73's that have something other than black lettering to disregard as myth though. Here's a few pics I took out in the daylight/rain to show the silver/chrome.The last pic is of the back of the 911T emblem. Name: 20141028_144531.jpg

Maybe you could create a nice reference thread for each LWB year based on your extensive doc/lit set and interest in the subject?

I'm sure others would appreciate it.

    Just a suggestion...

Now, if we could just get Porsche to quit calling an "Appearance group" a "comfort group" it would go a long way to eliminate a great amount of confusion.
Karim, thanks for posting the 73 sales info. Great stuff!
