Teutonic Spartan Sedans...( Bran New )

For some years I’ve had thoughts whether simple German sedans would be desirable today. The industry now focuses it's development on impressing people with drive-wire steering, braking, and navigational features.

Other than the Smart, Fiat, or Golf, a basic vehicle isn't easily found. In terms of human activities like walking, shoes and leather mocassins are not going to acquire circuits and cell phones. Basic construction and comfort..ergonomics are here to stay in shoe wear. If some of you were in BMW showrooms from 72 to mid 80s you witnessed what I’m describing.

I must say, it was flabbergasting to see the designs of subtle but plain wrappers. Each time I visited a 5 series car, it blew me away. You didnt have to drive it - the seats were phenomenal, dash was phenomenal. The interiors were spartan since the intent was to have you concentrate as a driver and focus on the road.

Engines today are a lot stronger versus the mid 80’s. But in terms of getting in and out of a vehicle, doors light, easy to operate, visibility ALL directions, road feedback, earlier sedans win out.

My concern stems from the fact of needing to visit Fiat 500, Smart, or Chevy Volt – as the few alternatives around for basic gear ?

    Wow !

Yup they are nice and you're way too late if you're looking for an M5 - good unrestored unmolested low mileage cars are very rare and way north of 35k€.

If the engine is in a good state of tune...yet one M5 I looked at could barely do the speed limit. It was 9K in average condition. A heavier car also. Still, nice..

Few more.. Note the entry / exit for the car is superb. The trunk slopes down...so parking is a snap. I'm just so taken with it. Engineering that mixes with common sense.

Different era, same idea. Purpose built.

Probably few here recall the Audi 100 in the 70's.

A friend's family in highschool had a 4 speed bran new.. Really nice as a basic transport. Unfettered. A lot of space is available when the dash is like this. Close to the glass in depth as opposed to built out several feet for all the ancillary items stuffed inside (now).

At 3700 lbs most of these were rather heavy. Less steel, lightened to 2800 lbs....a good motor = it is the pinnacle.
