Thread: How do I get a copy of the Kardex?

How do I get a copy of the Kardex?

This week I purchased an intriguing car. It is a 1969 911E coupe. Nothing particularly exciting about that, but it came with some very special options: 100L gas tank, Sport Seats, Deeps sixes (instead of 911E 14" Fuchs) and the aluminum rear license panel. The fellow I bought it from bought it 40 years ago from the original owner in Seattle.

The car has rust in the pans and rockers, doglegs and door bottoms and a 1971 911T 2.2 engine, but it does still retain it's 901/13 transaxle(LSD?). When I bought it I was thinking it would be a parts car. But as I get into it I've realized this car can and should be saved. Too many great, rare options and a good original color - Light Metallic Blue.

I'm in the middle of 2 356 restorations and after they are done, plan to go through my 1968 911S SWT(was thinking of putting the 100L tank in it when I bought the 69). I don't need another project. So I plan to leave the 69 as I found it and sell it to someone else to restore. Based on my conversation with the previous owner who bought it from the original owner I am confident that the car came with everything on it from the factory. But I know it would be better if I had some proof. I have gotten a dozen COA's over the years and they are okay, but the Kardex would have much more and better information. It seems like the flood gates have opened on Kardex access in the past year with many, many cars sporting copies of it's Kardex. WHERE CAN I GET ONE TOO?

    Looks like quite the project.

search "Kardex" here and the folks with access will appear in the various threads. Got mine from "Kouwenhoven" (sp?)

Thank you to everyone who got back to me. I have now ordered Kardex's for 6 of my Porsches.

When I can document that this car came with these special options, as I am certain it did, the car will be for sale here.

Someone did ask about the sport seats so I took a couple pictures of them a few minutes ago.

Larry, one thing to remember when you order a Kardex on 911's is sometime around 70 they stopped doing the actual cards like they did with the 356's and early 9 series cars. I ordered one for a 70S and this is what I got from my guy.

    911 030 0581
    1970 911S Coupe
    Engine 6300815
    transmission was not recorded
    Colour Tangerine/23
    Inside Black Leatherette/11
    Extras
    C02
    M 440
    M 470

But no actual scanned card like I have for dozens of 356's and early 9 series stuff.

Thanks Adam - very good point.

The only post 69 car I ordered one for is my 1972 Targa. I will have to send the fellow a note and ask about what he can provide. If it will just be the same list as the COA would contain, the COA would be sufficient.

I cleaned up the interior a bit yesterday and noticed that it also has two fog/driving light switches. They are both identical and have the E/S chrome escutcheons so I'm betting they are factory installed. This of course meant that the car came with 2 sets of lights fog AND driving lights or two pair of driving lights. I also noticed that none of the switches have the little soft rubber caps on the knobs that 69 models usually have. I realize that you can just pop those off, but that leaves a line usually. No signs of a roll bar though. I'm inclined to think it was ordered as a Rally car, but the lack of a roll bar?

Is one of the switches for a gas heater? Very similar to a fog switch.

Yes, they are similar - my 68 S has the Webasto, but the gas heater switch is a 3 position (off/fan/heater) and both of these are 2 position, off/on.

One switch is for fog lights. The other is for the rear window defroster.

Check the driver's door jamb for any sign of the square US DOT safety tage below the paint tag.

Given the 100l tank, it would be unusual for it to be a US market car.

Yes, you're right, forgot about the later cars having them.

No sign of the square tag below the paint tag. I know the one you're taking about, had other 69's with them long ago. Of course they were just glued on so it could have come off sometime in the past.

It's possible that it was a euro delivery car, but it doesn't have a Kilometers speedometer. It also doesn't have the Euro locking steering ignition switch, so I doubt it.

I should be getting a copy of the Kardex next week, which should answer these questions.
