It is my impression that the earliest wood wheels were a lighter color wood, later ones got darker. Lighting is important when taking photos, the first two are mostly shaded, the third has better light and the wood looks a bit different.

My COA doesn't list this as an option (but I haven't gotten a Kardex yet). Do you guys know if this was an option at the time for the '65-'68 SWB cars? I l know the '68-only 911L had the S-spec interior and exterior with the normal 130bhp engine, so was this wooden wheel an option on non-S cars but standard on the S? Thanks for any help on this!

Wooden steering wheel was a free option for 911 not free for 912

    Correct.
By 1967, only for the 911S option 9265 was still a no cost option.

By 1968, your 911L could have option 9265 at no extra cost.
(Keep in mind the 1968 911S was officially not imported to the US.)

Most factory literature was retouched and several 65/66 brochures show very light wooden wheels (W221 printed Oct/Dec 64). Here are two colour shots I believe not retouched and showing natural settings, even the second photo was used w a flash/studio. Lighting is indeed important and the wood changes within the light source.
