Which Work shop manuals should I be looking for?

After many years of dreaming I purchased my first Porsche. It is a 1969 911T. Albeit the previous owner had it "running" (somehow they run on varnish) the car had been parked for quite a while (registration tags many years out of date) and receipts show that it hadn't had any regular maintenance since 2002 and less that 500 miles since then.
I'm one of those silly individuals that enjoys tinkering the the garage. Instead of going at it blindly I'm looking for recommendations of which workshop manuals I should be looking for. I know from experience that the Chilton/Haynes usually give you about enough info to get you in trouble. I would like a book with better information than that. I'm not looking for a book that belongs in my library but in my workshop. Thanks Forrest

Look for a factory Work shop Manual. Don;t waste your time on others. the WSM is a 2 volume set. Full of great info. I have a paper copy (Not for sale) I may even have an electronic copy. I am not sure about the 911. I have them for the other p cars

Absolutely agree,,,,,whatever it takes to find the factory manuals will save you pain later on. What you would like to find is the first edition version with all the supplements.

Thank you both for the advice. I will keep my eyes open for factory manuals.

I believe the manual you're after is WKD-480-520 which covers 911s from 1965 through 1971. If you had a later Porsche you would need WKD-480-520 and supplemental volumes. You can download a Porsche Literature catalog for some details.

A quick Google check showed that Lüfteknic's website says they still have them for sale. You might want to have a stiff drink before you check on the price.

there are some old aftermarket manuals that can be helpful in a general way - if you are new to the 911 - so I disagree that everything else is worthless; I agree you want the factory manuals for sure

be aware that '69 is an odd MY - IIRC there is an entire thread here somewhere pointing out the divergences

    Hi Forrest-

The other thing I'd add is the Parts Katalog. They were available as PDF from the Porsche website I think. If you can't find it, PM me and I'll email it to you.

As stated above 1969 is an odd year. Lot's of interesting differences between other 911's. Good luck with the new project. Hope to see you over at EASY after I get the '69E together this year.
    Cheers,

Thank you everybody. I was able to to find a set of factory manuals on evil bay for a reasonable price. When they were received I was happy with there condition and the fact that at one point they were owned by a shop that saw the importance of doing updates to the literature and documenting it. I will try to find or download the parts catalog too. I can see where having the exploded parts view and correct numbers will be important.

I was unaware of the uniqueness of the 69' model year when I bought it. But I have since then stumbled across the tread with all the interesting M.Y. info. Would it have stopped me from the purchase? No. But I can tell it will make some projects a little more challenging. The first one is going to be that 1 year hazard switch that is broken off flush with my dash. And a 1 year wiring harness is going to be fun while chasing down some electrical gremlins. Ugh.
