Need some help with valuation on 1965 parts...

I have been hanging on to some early parts that I am not going to use. I don't own a 65 chassis and probably won't in the near future. I have a 65 case that was prepped for a 2.8 MFI engine with the studs for the MFI pump welded to the case, and spigots opened for 90mm P and Cs. Nice case, very clean.
I also have a set of solex 40s with the crossbar and fuel lines, as well as the air cleaners (minus the snorkel).
Had been saving everything with the intention of building up an early 65 engine, but that is not likely.
I could use some help valuing the case/peripherals and carbs.
I will offer them to the board first.

    Thanks

In an earlier thread on this forum someone was eager to pay $ 7,500 for a Solex carburetor system. Missing pieces might detract significantly from the value though.

Case number is pretty important on the engine for valuation... $5K and up would be the range. Solex setup with intakes is an easy $7K; maybe more. Ping Frank Beck on the Solexes...

Good point...case is cast "65" and serial is 903900. Solex setup includes carbs, manifolds, horns, crossmember, fuel lines and aircleaner.

Wow. Although it's a '66 engine, it is 10 from the last Solex-equipped engine built.

If it helps any, some of the unique parts which you don't have for a complete Solex system are:

    • 901.108.401.00 (mechanical fuel pump) FUEL PUMP DOUBLE-SIDED
    • 901.108.051.01 FUEL LINE COMPLETE- SOLEX -PUMP ELECTRIC-FLOAT HOUSING (on firewall)
    • 901.108.071.00 REVERSE LEVER COMPLETE (bellcrank on left manifold)
    • 901.423.253.00 BUSH (for bellcrank on left manifold)
    • 901.108.650.00 DAMPER (a shock absorber for the cross shaft, on rear of left manifold)
    • 901.108.621.00 BRACKET (holds damper)
    • 901.108.986.00 COVER COMPLETE (Snorkel)
    • 901.108.991.00 SLEEVE (covers joint in the two sides of the air cleaner)

The air cleaner also seems to be missing some of the buckles that hold it to the carbs or hold the snorkel. Those may be common to VWs, if so they shouldn't be too hard to find.

Not so long ago, I found a mechanical fuel pump listed on eBay or somewhere in the US$ 600-700 range.
