Honestly don't know if that is the original tank drain plug Steve. I have a later oil pump with no sump drain so that plug for sure is gone.

Original drain plug. At least the ones on the three 1973 only tanks I have are the same.

I would encourage anyone using the 19mm hex drain plug to use the new 15mm one. The threads are very shallow on the 19 and I have seen tanks stripped out. The new 15mm one has deep threads, use without worry, and tell the concourse judges it’s a Porsche update.

This is helpful. Do you happen to have a part number for the improved drain plug?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Was there an earlier in-hex version of the tank plug or was it always 19mm hex in 72/3?

Hugh is the shape of this late tank the same as David’s tank also assumed original shown in photos in post #49? Think it is the case as you showed it many posts back. If original it would suggest the use of the different shape tank only began quite late in model 73 production annual cycle.

The hex looks taller than Cees www example ?
