    FS: @Napleton's AM - '71 'S' Targa

    VIN = 9111310022
    Eng# = ?
    Trans# = ?

    '. . . Ferdinand Porsche anticipated this development, and responded with the 911 Targa, which offered open-air motoring with the protection of a rollover hoop. Today the term ?targa top? is part of automotive nomenclature, and examples like this restored 1971 model, one of just 989 produced, are in high demand among Porsche enthusiasts. Documented with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, it is correctly finished in factory Silver paint with a Black leatherette interior and incorporates a matching numbers drivetrain comprising the 2.2 L flat-6 engine and 5-speed manual transmission. The subject of a recent engine inspection and service by Gary Dielachen, this attractive early-era Targa retains its factory original floor panels and sheet metal, aluminum deck lid and rear valence, 15x6-inch Fuchs date coded wheels, tinted glass and removable Targa top. HIGHLIGHTS - Restored 911S Targa - Matching numbers drivetrain - Correct factory Silver paint - Correct factory Black leatherette interior - Removable Targa top - Very rare low production, 1 of 788 911S Targa - Recent engine inspection and service by Gary Dielachen - Factory tinted glass - Original 15x6 Fuchs heart wheels . . .'

    Pretty low vin in the middle of the series, what attraction is that? Just marketing words. Like having there very first 1968.... Um so what. I looked this car over well in Monterey and almost bought it but looks like these are the guys that bought it right before I made up my mind. Very solid car, paint is good, it needed some things but just cosmetics. It's matching numbers, the throttle bodies are 2.4 versions but otherwise fairly correct. I give this car a thumbs up. Glad I did not buy it as something else came up that I am much more happy about. Buyer for this car does not need to beware, about time a car gets positive reviews on here.

    . . . now on BaT

    VIN = 9111310022
    Eng# = 6310053
    Trans# = 7110112
    Prod# = ?

    '. . . This 1971 Porsche 911S Targa is one of 788 examples produced for the model year and was acquired by the seller four years ago. Power comes from the numbers-matching 2.2-liter flat-six, which was rebuilt in April 2018 with new bearings, piston rings, valves, upgraded chain tensioners, and more as outlined below. Additional work included replacing the fuel tank and fuel pump, and the distributor cap was replaced in January 2019. Finished in Silver Metallic over black leatherette, this 911S is now offered with service records from the last four years, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name . . .

    . . . The exterior is finished in Silver Metallic (80), which is listed on the Porsche Certificate as the original color . . .

    . . . The cabin is trimmed in black leatherette, with charcoal carpets protected by black and red Coco mats. A Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio is retained in the dash and is listed as factory equipment. The 5-digit odometer shows just under 70k miles, 2,000 of which have been added by the seller during four years of ownership . . .

    . . . The injected 2.2-liter flat-six produced 180 horsepower at 6,500 rpm when new and is paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle. The engine was rebuilt in April 2018 by Porsche specialist shop Midwest Eurosport in Bensenville, Illinois. Work included installing new piston rings, rod and main bearings, timing chains with guides, seals, gaskets, and pressure-fed timing chain tensioners. The heads were machined and fitted with new intake and exhaust valves. The fuel tank and fuel pump were also replaced at that time. A new distributor cap was installed in January 2019 . . .

    . . . The CoA also lists the factory colors and equipment. Receipts for the engine rebuild can be found in the gallery
