Very interesting indeed. If the cast is indeed 64 and early 65 then I guess it should be a 901/01. If the right half of the case is Jan 66, then could it be that the original right half got damaged and this is a replacing piece with a new overall number (KD), but the original 1099 number?

Do you know which car this came from?

The number on top, 422, is the pairing number. The other half should have the same number. If so it means the 2 halves form 1 case. I have seen more cases with different cast dates and these are not very far apart.
It is possible to look up the kardex of the car via the engine#. The engine specs should be on the kardex.

Yes- both halves have the pairing number 422. I had left out the picture of the other side.

    Hello-
I decided to sell the engine- It is on Ebay for those that may be interested. I have details of part and casting numbers with dates listed in the ad. The crankcase is 64/65, heads are 65, timing chain housings 65. Intake valve covers are 65.
Cam boxes are 68, with later exhaust valve covers. The ad has hi-resolution pictures- I have to add pictures of the internals. I appreciate any help/input you all may be able to provide.

The money from this sale will be used to help fund another car. I sold my Turbo in 1999 and have been driving Chevy's ever since.... Thanks again to all, including the staff that makes this site available!

That is the Ebay auction. Thanks for posting the link, I did not know if linking to auction sites is allowed.

Better late than never, the original engine # to go with build 1099 was 901199. In my opinion the engine was renumbered, perhaps by the factory, but difficult to know.
The official end of type 901/06 was engine serial 912050; this is 7 beyond that. Perhaps the factory recycled engine cases, but I have not heard that happening before.
This case is a curiosity piece.

There is a very slight chance I have some paperwork from the car. Will look tomorrow.

I seem to recall the car having an early serial number. A very foggy memory of a Porsche 'expert' looking at the rear cross support that has the engine lid latch mounted. He commented that it wasn't original because it was different- IIRC it did not have the recesses stamped into it....
