Sound deadening - with a drivetrain in the rear of the car, it's not clear how much benefit there is with that stuff. Carpet and a pad will dampen sound also.

Always been curious about the rear engine-pad for one reason. When one got pulled on a 3.0 and stock muffler, there wasn't one decibel difference I could hear on a mid year car.

Of all the noise, bass frequency is the killer (often w sport muffler). If resonance is coming through the rear parcel shelf and then amplified, Dynamat or other material will mask it some, but not eliminate it.

I removed the old "horse hair" sound deadening pad from the engine compartment. I thought about dynamating the whole interior after I primed and painted the interior to seal it up. I may purchase the Wurth product. I just haven't given it much thought yet. May also explore spray on sound deadener for the interior. I'm trying to keep the weight down as much as I can. I am not completely concerned with going back OEM 100 % besides, you won't be able to tell what's under there once the carpet is installed.

Ouch! Well, that's one half shaft that I'm going to have to replace! Next lesson learned, with the half shafts in put the rear of the car on the dolly. Today, I'm going to continue to sand and strip the car down. I've got a guy from a shop coming out Saturday morning to assess the car and give me a quote for the bodywork. Stay tuned for more updates, pictures, and hopefully no more "lesson learned".

    Cheers,

Dang that sucks! Hope seat bottoms and heater boxes are ok, among other cables and what not.

Figured you would have mentioned riding in a 911 for the first time and omit this little snafu.

Actually no damage to anything EXCEPT the axle shafts themselves. Really lucked out. Besides I was gonna replace them anyways. It was rather embarrassing but we all make mistakes so I won't let it get to me Like I said, I'll definitely take it slow next time and not get in a rush. Yes, riding in the 72 was quite fun. Really a great experience, just wish it was street legal so we could have went on a longer ride. Can't wait to get my car back together! Although the tear-down has been quite fun!

Isn't the engine cover from an early car? I don't think they were split in 71.

I think it's steel. I'd have to put a magnet on it. Which is better? Why is it rare? Thanks.

    It's not.

    Back to more important things.

I think it's awesome that your family is helping. The sign of a solid marriage is when the Mrs. gets messy doing the things her husband loves.
How did you bribe your brothers?

Yeah, it's great to have all of us working on the car before I get deployed here in a few weeks. Those knick knacks are parts to my grandfather's Corvette. Not a rare car by any means but it was something we were working on before I joined the service, he passed away shortly after. I'm pretty organized, I've got everything labeled in Ziploc bags and stowed away neatly on my shelves. The (Chevrolet) orange thing you're seeing is a piece of engine trim or something. I'd have to look at it next time I'm over there. Does Mrs Frank get out there and help you? Do I still get to move up the chain Frankie?

I'm married to the most fanstastic woman on the planet. Some of the field trips I've dragged her on and crap I've asked her to do is beyond words.

What other woman would barely flinch when you say "Honey, I think we're going to home school the girls the next couple of years because I want to go racing as a family". 130+ days a year on the road for 3 years isn't for everyone but it worked for us.

    Best memories we've ever had.
