To restore or not, that is the question, Italien delivery 73E Targa value question

Hey everybody, I'm currently on the fence about my most recent project. It's a Dalmation blue/tan 73 Targa. It's completely apart. All removable body panels are in final prime. Interior needs complete restoration. I've had a nice no speaker grill dash for a while that I've been saving. It has plastic RS type fuel cell with date matched collapsible spare.

Car is numbers matching with MFI. Ran but smoked when I bought it. Walt at competition found me an excellent set of P/C, polished crank etc... Walt stil has case to check line bore along with other engine stuff.

With the thousands I've already spent, there will be much more to go. The chassis needs some rust repair on passenger rocker and right wheel house. I have a rotisserie set up for early 911s.

My question to you guys is, what are restored 72/73 T or E targas Bringing? I have a good feel for what coupes are worth, but the targas seem to be considerably less. And help is much appreciated.

Early Targa's are making a big comeback especially very nice examples of originals or high level restorations. If you are sure of your early coupe values targa's are right behind.

    Bill:

Walt is a master at engine rebuilds, so I wouldn't want to get in the way of his recommendations. However, if I were doing a rebuild on a 2.4 E engine I would consider using 2.2E pistons. You would get an approximate 0.5+ boost in CR for a more lively drive for the same money. If you want to consider that approach, I have a set of 2.2E pistons that I could send to Walt for his evaluation. If they are in spec and reusable, we could work out a purchase price (around $300). I will not be using them, and it would be good if they got back into a long hood engine.

Hey Gib, would the mfi pump need recalibration?

    Bill:

The pump would not need to be recalibrated. A slight adjustment of the mid range screw would be the most that would need to be changed. It would probably result in an additional 10-15 hp, and more torque. Even if you don't want to use my pistons, you should consider using higher compression pistons, JE or factory 2.2E pistons to get more performance. Costs are going to be the same building with stock compression or higher.
